i have cbs and a pbs channel (taken over by channel 1 (that news channel) and abc)...

Sucks that they killed 5000 people and you're soooo inconvenienced with no TV to watch. Try getting real life friends with cable or sat.... :|

I was about to reply with that, but hey, maybe he's in New York state. I'm pissed as hell about the thing, but even I got bored of watching non-stop news after 3 days.

I have two channels also.. Channel 2 kept going after the disaster, and now I have ABC, channel 7. 11 doesn't come in clearly enough to watch.

Everyone says I should get cable.

I wanted the dish thing, but it's not allowed on my apartment building.

[sarcasm] Yeah, you're right, life shouldn't move on. If anything is discussed besides Tuesday's tragedies, then that person is insensitive and needs to get a life.[/sarcasm]

I second that, johnjohn320.
Maybe we should pray ten times a day for a few years, for those that lost their lives... will that be satisfactory to you, Locutus of Board?

Er.. The "dish thing" HAS to be allowed on your building. FCC mandated that residents are allowed to have a personal sattelite dish (18" variety IIRC) with the neccessary view of the sky.

Of course.. this could be a state thing, but I'm almost positive it's a federal regulation. Along the same lines that communities/cities can't ban you building a 50ft (or somewhere about that tall..) shortwave radio tower in your backyard if you're a homeowner.

I know here the apartment complex attempted to ban dishes, but a resident quickly got that changed with some court-threatening, and the complex'es lawyers buckled right away. (big corporate-owned property).

Shrug, something to look into is all.
Obviously if you don't have a view of the southern sky it's a moot point though. :)

okay, quick internet search. Not sure if you can mount it to your exterior wall outside the windows (like many residents here do) legally, but if you have a patio...

if you're in an apartment setting and the landlord is adamant that he will not extend permission to allow mounting a dish on the roof, you may have a perfectly legal option. if you have a balcony/patio which is exclusively under your control, you have the right, not the privilege, as protected by the u.s. federal telecommunications act of 1996, to install a dish in that area regardless of the landlord's wishes. (exclusivity means only you, other residents of your flat, or your guests, with your permission, are the only people who would have access to this area.) you cannot legally attach to a railing if the landlord objects, but a five gallon plastic pail and a couple of sacks of quick-setting concrete make a very stable mount to set on the balcony/patio flooring for a dish. jig a four foot length of 1-1/2" diameter pole (galvanized electrical conduit is ideal.) in it while it sets, give it 24 hours to set well, attach the dish at the top of the pole, and you should be good to go. total expense for materials should be under $15.00. note, though, that this is under u.s. law. canada may be different.

From now on, just to let you all know.

To varying degrees, my sarcasm is not totally meant until I do this.

STFU

Then I'm serious.

So... Right now....

All of you

STFU

Dumbasses. You're too dumb to realize, all that happened last Tuesday may only be the beginning.

Cool  I will look into this. There are several dishes on my apartment building, but the manager told me they were installed without permission. I think I'll talk to him again.

Nothing new is on the news. Just a bunch of people asking if anyone has seen so and so person. I'm very sorry for all of them who had friends and family that died because of the tradegy, but seriously, nothing new has really turned up, so why the 24/7 news coverage of it?
