...over 10 years!

Hey Guys,

I need your help with building a new gaming rig, I've been out of the computer scene for over 10 years now so I thought I better ask the experts for their advice and recommendations. :)

WOW! So much has changed! The specs are amazing these days, I remember the days when AGP 64MB graphics card were the top echelon of cards and having an overclocked Tbird with 1GB of DDR ram was legit. Not to mention, RAM and mobo are at great prices.

Anyway, I tried going through Newegg to get an idea but there are so much stuff out there now so I need a little help. I will have a max budget of $1000 for this new rig. I have no preference to brands because I have never been a fan boy, just whatever is the best bang for the buck.

I will only need the tower and all the goodies inside, won't be needing an OS, monitor, or any peripherals, unless its gaming controllers. :hmm: I am planning to build this new system within the next few weeks so ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would like to purchase everything at Newegg.com since I had great experiences with them in the past and it seems that they have been doing really well past 10 years.

Again, thanks for reading and any insight is appreciated.

Have you been catching up on whats new.. the Nvidia Kepler range(6xx) is going to debut very soon(mid-March?) as is Intel's Ivy Bridge. You should definitely until Kepler comes out as prices would tumble on the rest of the lineup.

Not that waiting is a bad idea, but Nvidia's current-generation GPU prices most likely won't change much at all unless you're willing to buy used. I don't know why people always assume that they will. :hmm:

bononos - I haven't but do you think the prices would really drop much?

Another question for you guys. For the SSD drive, is it worth it for gaming? I was told that although it is blazing fast, for general usage etc, for gaming its not really necessary because of the size of the drives. Thoughts?

Some games can greatly benefit from being installed on an SSD. For example, if you have WoW on an SSD, you will always be the first to load any area. Most don't benefit nearly as much, and as you have correctly surmised, they are large enough such that it can be somewhat cost prohibitive.

Hmm, if it helps with loading then I have to consider. I play Skyrim and the loading between nearly every room or area can be pretty annoying but if it faster that would be worth it.

I have Skyrim on a Vertex 2, the loading times are just a couple of seconds. Enough to read what it says on the loading screen.
