Havent been to McDonalds in a very long time. Apparently hash browns are two bucks a pop.

Well pizza got overall cheaper because they all started chasing the lowest common denominator. Quality of ingredients and cooking went way down hill and the final price dropped. I actually like it better in the good old days when pizza was reasonably priced and tasty. Dominoes actually reversed their game plan and went back to more expensive ingredients and better overall product. But then the lockdown messed up everything and now pizza is both expensive and lousy. Even the local family pizzeria isnt great like it used to be.

I don't see any difference in quality between current Dominos and 1991 Dominos and Pizza Hut. I don't even bother with Pizza Hut any more now that Dominos has $8 larges.

^^^^ Wormy's used to have a Buck menu. I could get a couple of cheeseburgers, fries and a frosty for $4

.
I usually got their chili and/or Jr. bacon cheeseburger, side salad or ceasar side salad and baked potato. That was a lot of food for $3 or $4. Didn't start getting Frosty's until they added the vanilla Frosty. I wasn't a fan of their chocolate Frosty.

I used to work at mcd's in the late 80's. I remember the nightmare 4 hours of 39 cent cheeseburger (29 cent hamburger) night. People actually came through drivethru and bought 20, 50 or 100 at a time. There were also people buying a bunch for their dog.

Back when the McDonald's app first came out they used to consistently have coupons for $1 large fries. At the same time a McDouble was on the menu for $1 and any size drink was $1. I'd get two McDoubles, large fries, large drink for $4.25 or so after tax.

Now the McDouble is $2.99, a large fries is $3.49 and the coupons for fries are more rare. Even the drink has gone up to $1.20 for any size. Those two burgers, fries and drink have collectively more than Mcdoubled in price in just a few years.
There was a deliberate corporate strategy to reel in the "value buyer" in 2018 and 2019, and I happened to be reeled in, but only for the value deals; the full price for something like a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder sandwich was too much. I still have the email receipts from 2018 for retrospective analysis.

Although, I just fired up the app for the first time in over a year and they have an offer for a free Big Mac....

I've noticed over the past few years fast food prices in general have really shot up. I remember 10-15 years ago when you could buy a combo for under $10 at most places, now it's pushing $15+ for a typical combo. And yet they still pay their employees minimum wage while racking in record profits.

Dominos pizza is complete crap though. It's like lowest common denominator pizza, kinda like McDonalds is for burgers, but that's okay if you are for it.

I mean it's edible and don't get me wrong, I will eat it, and I actually got it last night because my 7 year old likes it better than a better pizza place (Ledo Pizza) we go to that is nearly double the price. But I'd rather go to the more expensive place because it taste better.

But the pizza we got yesterday is just so blah. There was like 10 pieces of ground beef on it. And I got wings too because I did that $6.99 deal they have. The wings were the worst wings I've ever had. It was 8 wings and I had 4 and threw the rest out. They are breaded but were just a bunch of mush. The hot sauce was tasty though.

The best thing we got was the $7 brownie/cookie thing. That was a great desert.

I remember McDonalds started getting expensive after the summer 2012 drought. Though the one that surprises me is pizza getting so much cheaper. I used to pay $10 in 1991 dollars for a large pepperoni back then, now I can go to Dominos and get a large pepperoni carryout for $8 of the same quality. That $10 in 1991 would be $22 now.
As shorty said, chances are the "quality" is not the same. You're right though that large chain pizza does seemingly defy gravity (inflation) in this sense.

Can you order with the app and still pay with cash in the store? I hate buying stuff like that with anything but cash, something psychological about having to hand over real money. Otherwise small crap like that really builds up and wastes a lot of money.
Meh, drive-through convenience trumps psychology. You can walk in, open the app and show them the QR code. I haven't done it, but I'm assuming this allows you to use any deal that's in the app.

I store a Citi one-time credit card # with McDonald's, so even if they had a serious data breach, it wouldn't affect me. Although the average American is terribad with consumer credit, there's no practical difference to me charging $10 at McD's or handing over cash. The former isn't encouraging me to order McDonald's more frequently. Thankfully the food itself is a good deterrent. :tearsofjoy:

Disagree, it was just wildly overpriced thirty years ago and Dominos now has to market to Millennials who have been getting buttfucked by this economy since 2008.

I actually like Domino’s pan pizza. They also have pretty decent wings for a chain.

Yeah Dominos and McDonalds got successful by putting out trash that people don't like.

Only for "premium" burgers.... anything with a "standard" patty @ McDogs is the same old frozen beef it always was.
I thought it was all the same when I was buying McDonalds in 2018, because I certainly didn't know about the "fresh beef" thing then.
I bought a Big Mac in only two orders in 2018. Once it was for a dollar, which is what I thought it was worth in actuality. The other was 2 of them for $5 and a $1 McDouble.

Then I didn't buy anything after the Bronx debit card thief until 2021 in December when they had that Mariah promo. Then I got a "keto'd"(no bun) Big Mac for $1.49.

And I'll probably get the freebie this week lol, "keto'd" of course.

I personally like Domino's Pizza since they revamped their product about a decade ago (has it really been that long? I forget). But I'm not gonna sit here and pretend their product competes with non-chain pizza. I realize that isn't what you're saying, but nobody else here believes that corners aren't being cut when your food product was sold for $10 in 1991, and now is always on sale for $8. All the local (or non-chain) pizza joints have surely raised their prices over time.

Sure, part of it is that competition is good for the consumer. But the labor input costs today are significantly higher than 30 years ago (and Domino's has struggled to hire drivers for a while). You can say they were "wildly" overpriced then, but that doesn't explain how you can feed three people for $8 when a Big Mac and fries costs at least that much.

IMO the Domino's franchise I always go to is skimping on ingredients (relative to just last year). Although they seem fair with toppings, they're skimpy on the sauce and even the seasoning on the crust. $8 pizzas aren't really sustainable in this inflationary environment.

I'm saying they cut the same corners in 1991 that they do now.

i know arby's electronic coupons can be used in the drive-thru when paying cash, and i believe mcd's and burger king's coupons can also be used in the store

I got my free Big Mac. I think I remember now. They botched the order in 2021 so only the buns were present and the burger was not there, the hamburger came with its patty but the Mac was bread only.
So I haven't eaten one in four years and can't remember the sauce.

Truly an unsatisfying pittance. I think I needed two or three to fill me up, and that's with only the Big Mac Sauce's sugar tempting me viscerally(and successfully as I ate half an orange, half can of sardines a slice of Papa John's pizza, and a banana). But at least I ate in a heme-craving state.
No bread, so it's basically a pico-salad and two patties, with cheese and sauce.

The sauce is what it is. Mayo meet salad dressing. I can get why some love it but ketchup is better if I wanted to eat junky with bovine meat again.

Also, not fatty enough. I'm used to downing 128-160gs of fat in a single meal sometimes(almond butter is yummy and got the sweetness to expand my appetite) while still being an under weight 125lber. :p

Orange juice is 4 bucks only if you are stupid...

Or if you're buying a big bottle in the supermarket!

I've always wondered why a person would go to McDogburger's and order fruit juice, apple slices, yogurt or anything else even remotely healthy.... it's not going to offset the double Quarter Pounder with cheese, bacon and extra mayo with large fries and a coke!

I know I can offset the weight gain from the double Quarter Pounder, as long as I avoid the fries, coke, and mayo, and buns. That's why fat girls find me sexy. :p .

I can't offset the damage the trans fat will do though or the damage to the wallet.

People eat a lot more fast food than I thought. I probably have it 15 times or less a year max. Shake shack the most, five times or so, Popeyes a few times, taco bell a couple. Wendy's maybe once. Jersey Mike's I guess is fast food? Never a fast food pizza place.

Too many choices around here that take ten to fifteen minutes to pick up, and is actually real food. Fuck paying those delivery prices, just walk five or ten minutes. You even get to walk some of the calories off.

I live in a spot with almost no proper restaurants, and none in walking distance. I have been eating taco bell twice a month since the quarantine. Well, this year I stopped that. But still, I should have done like everyone else and learned how to cook. I'd be much healthier now. Also McDonalds was a new experience for me. Havent had them in about 3 years, and it was a shock.
