Have your tires upon turning sharply made weird noises.

my tires tonite when i was doing 35 and turning into a long driveway about a 100' turn made some odd noises due to the pavement i believe they almost sounded like a belt squealing but it wasnt i laughed my ass of for the next 5 mins

My truck tires squeal when I make right turns at normal speeds when its hot out.. Im not sure why.. Brand new tires.. proper pressure..

If I take the same turn, at the same speed in a car.. nothing..

I guess the truck just weighs more? More Centrifical(sp?) force.

Centrifugal force, is only non-existant on a technical level. Used as a concept for the understanding of the inertia of a body in circular motion, centrifugal force becomes quite useful. More on topic, yes, a truck will generally have more inertia (and therefore more centrifugal force) than a car, but the real contribution to the tire squeal on a truck is a combination of suspension articulation and different tire design. Truck tires generally have much larger tread blocks, which are more prone to squeal than are the softer rubber and smaller tread block car tires. And yes, tires squealing would sound like a belt squealing because a belt is rubber also.

Zemmer, are the larger tread blocks what make truck tires have a howling sound when you do a smokey launch, as opposed to a "regular" tires squeal?
Or is it because the sidewall is just so much bigger on a truck/SUV tire?

Mine made that noise a couple of months ago....after two days of it, I went under to investigate, and a bolt in my under panel had come off, and part of it was hanging down and rubbing up against me tire when I turned to far to the right. Get under there and check it out.

Thank you, we have a winner!

Hey Daz, the reason behind a truck making noise and a car not is body roll. Your center of gravity is higher on the truck so it will roll more to the left, lifting the tire off the ground more making it squeal on the pavement

it is your tires losing grip with the road and sliding, causing them to rub, and producing the squeal. It could be tire pressure, shocks, speed, or weight distribution.
