Have your civil rights ever been violated? Actually I should ask, did you ever feel that your civil rights were being violated in a particular incident or case?

If so, please explain.

Well, one morning a friend of mine was pulled over with me in the car and I felt the cops were a little overzealous in doing their jobs. Especially since there were 4 or 5 of them (one car pulled us over, then 2 others showed up to back them up) for 2 of us.

I got searched, the car got searched, and all because my friend had a license plate light that was a little dim.

Yes. When I was younger I probably asked for it. But as an adult, I don't appreciate some cop telling me has has "probable cause" to search my vehicle. Why? B/C you pulled me over for speeding? I don't think so. I make them get a search warrant.

Yes. I spent 3 years on active duty military and my civil rights were violated every minute of every day for all 3 years. :Q

It is sad to see what has happened to our 4th Amendment rights because of the war on drugs. Probable cause has now become little more than "I felt like it."

Is the right not to have one's car stolen a civil right, or is that some other kind of right?

After having a few beers, my buddy and I were hungry. So, his girlfriend and I (she was completely sober) went to Taco Bell.

I was staring at her speedometer right when a police officer pulled us over. We were going 45 in a 45 and we were never higher than 47. The officer asked for her license and registration which she gave. She asked why she was pulled over and the officer said she was speeding. She said she was not and the officer said she was maybe going 60. She again said she was not speeding and I also said I was watching her speedometer and she was going 45.

The officer asked me if I had been drinking. I said, 'ya, I had a few beers.' He demanded my license. Oh noes.. I was over 21.. so sorry.

Then, the officer went back to his car and made us wait for about 10 minutes. Our food was getting cold. When the officer came back, I asked him for his badge number. He ignored me. I asked him again - and he told me to shut up. Being the persistent person that I am and never knowing when to quit, I shouted at him and said, "What is your badge number? This is a legal question." He had just got done telling us to wait yet another time while he went back to his car.

Maybe I leaned my head out of the window too far when I asked him.. but he told me to get out of the car. So, I did. Immediately, he pulled my arm behind me, forced it up (doesn't actually bend that way), and slammed me against her car. I hit my chin on the roof. He said something to the effect of 'this was for his own safety.' And, he searched me, pushed me against the car again, and told me to "get in the fvcking car."

By this time, another officer had joined. He showed up right when the first officer was throwing me against the car. He then talked to the first officer and I guess calmed him down. The first officer drove off in a huff. When I asked why he threw me against the car, the second officer said I never should have gotten out of the car...

Even from the second officer, I couldn't get enough information to file a complaint about the first officer. The whole damn thing left my arm sore and my chin bruised, my food cold, and my pride busted.

A thief can violate your rights just as much as a government. So yes, your right to private property was violated by a car thief

How often does this happen?

the applicable law to my case in summary

Families cannot be denied the housing of their choice simply because they have children. The law protects pregnant women, families with children, adults serving as guardians for children, and those in the process of obtaining legal custody of children (such as those who are adopting).
