My new years resolution along with the fiancee was no more mammals. So when trying to cook picadillo it proved to be a challenge. We went to the grocery store and found Soy bean ground beef, called crumbles or something along those lines. They were quite good and besides the texture it was not much different.
However, We tried those smart dogs and that sh!t was nasty.

I've had veggie burger patties (Garden Burgers, etc) before and I actually like the taste a lot. They don't taste like meat, so they aren't really a meat substitute for me.

I've also gone to Buddhist temples where they serve vegetarian dishes with fake meats. Most of it tasted like heavily flavored tofu skin.

I guess the meat substitutes are good in their own ways because they're usually pretty flavorful, but I don't think I'd be able to eat them all the time.

Garden Burgers>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Boca Burgers for those interested

I've tried the veggie burgers and they're pretty decent (Morningstar Farms, I believe). I've also tried Tofu nuggets in place of meat. NASTY!

For the most part, though, I still with good ol lean beef. Hey, that's what cows are for.

Admit it, you're into entomophagy.

Yes, and soy milk lactation

[Lewis Black] You can't call it soy milk because there is no Soy T!t!! But they couldn't just call it soy juice, because when you hear "soy juice", you get this awful taste in the back of your throat [/Lewis Black]

I didn't climb all the way to the top of the food chain to eat soy or garden burgers. Nothing better than having a nice steak on the grill with a baked potato. mmmmm

Entomophagy is the concept of humans eating insects for food. This culinary area is regular in developing regions of Central and South America, Africa, and Asia, but uncommon in the developed world.

Edit: Anyone else try those smart dogs? It was like eating rotten rolled up tuna that was in a food processor for a week.

We had soy hotdogs (Smart Dogs, Not Dogs, etc.) every once in a while when I was growing up. My dad was a vegetarian so he'd get them sometimes. He also bought us regular hotdogs if we wanted. Soy hotdogs aren't so bad, I suppose, much rather eat a real one though.

If you and your girlfriend don't eat the meat, somebody else will. Real meat is too good to give up.

I don't care if you eat it or that we slaughter 500 more cows because im not eating mammals. I just believe in the research dealing with heart disease from red meats.

Read up about grass fed beef. Cows are meant to eat grass, and meat from cows who actually do is much better for you than modern beef, which in the US is obtained from cows fed corn and soy (what do you know...). Humanity has eaten beef for thousands of years with no problems, it's only recently that the infusion of corn/soy fed beef has caused the consumption of saturated and omega-6 fat to skyrocket.
