I have 2 listed, neither is unlocked simply because I don't want to mess around with that - will I lose a lot by not unlocking it?

Maybe make it an option in the auction? Some people are more appealed to not being locked into AT&T, while others don't want to risk anything hacked.

Offer it in your auction and get familiar with Winpwn. People pay more money for an unlocked phone because they don't want to do it themselves.

Im going to the apple store tomm to swap for a replacement. This last replacement I have has three stuck green pixels that show up on a full black screen and I don't want the buyer complaining.

I sold my 4GB iPhone for much more than I paid for it on Ebay back in Feb. and bought an 8GB iPhone.

I'm not planning on selling my 8GB ahead of the 3G iPhone launch because I don't want to commit to the much higher prices on AT&T. I estimate that switching from T-Mobile USA to AT&T, would increase my bill by 50% on the family plan that I share with my wife. There's a good chance that I'll just stick with my T-Mobile plan... and it's highly unlikely that the 3G iPhone will be unlockable immediately, or will be sold unlocked (and, yeah, I've read the rumor from La Republica that it will be unlocked out of the gate).

Not like 3g from AT&T would do you any good on T-Mobile anyway, since their 3g (whenever it launches...) will be on a different frequency.

You know, I wonder if AT&T isn't the driving factor behind the switch to 3g. People will always find ways to unlock these phones, but a 3g phone is a lot less valuable unlocked here since AT&T is currently the only GSM 3g carrier in the US, and T-Mobile's gear won't even be compatible.

I mean, it's not exactly in Apple's best interest to box up the non-3g iPhones and never sell them again, since there IS a market for them...

Since tmobile's 3G isn't compatible with the iPhone gen II's 3G, I'm going to sit tight on my gen I for a while.

I have a couple of BB Curves & HTC phones that I'll list on eBay in the meantime.

I really like my iPhone, it's the best web browser on a phone I've used yet.

Good point about T-Mobile's non-spectrum-compatible (and largely non-existant) 3G. But there's rumors of other improvements beyond 3G - thinner, lighter - a GPS... and I travel to Europe a lot (at least 3 months out of the year this year and next) and you can get UMTS prepaid SIMs from Vodafone and others. I love my Gen1 iPhone, I'd upgrade to Gen2 if there's a reason to do so and it wasn't much more money. I guess we'll see what the future holds.

Is it all but guaranteed it's going to be out by the end of June? I'm probably going to throw my 8gb up on eBay tomorrow, but I hope I'm not just pursuing a collective *wish* that it'll be out by then. I have my old Motorola phone I got free from Cingular 3 years ago that I'll probably just throw my SIM card in, but I see myself carrying my work Blackberry around more. 🙂

There has been no official word of it coming in June. If I were you I would wait for an official confirmation before putting it on ebay. Especially if you use the other features frequently you might also be without an ipod as well.

Wouldn't the prices then theoretically plummet with quite a few people flooding the market with their phones and less people buying them due to a new version right around the corner? I mean, I realize like anything it's a gamble-- but yes, I would be without an ipod. I might hold off a little longer.

Waiting for an official announcement will be too late to sell these phones. I've just recently sold my 8gb for 350 locked. I guess i should have gotten it unlocked and maybe make 450 but whatever... Although theres no official announcement, the mac conference is scheduled for June9th and some people online are pretty sure 2nd Gen will be announced and released soon after that. See if you guys can get a backup phone in the time being. Its going to be worth it in the end imho. You guys may want to list your phones on craiglist cause you can deal w/ cash and no waiting on the s&h or hassling w/ ebay's posting fees.

**edit**
the funny thing is, for the last week or 2 all available stock of iphones all over the world have been cut down (assuming apple stores are prepping for 2nd Gen's launch by liquidating old stock). Most people did not hear/expect for a 2nd Gen iPhone so that may be whats driving the prices up online because you can't get it anywhere cept those selling their used ones online. You also notice some local phone shops are trying to subsidize back inventory iphone by offering it for 200 bucks. Perhaps they are anticipating for the new version and is also trying to get rid of their inventory.

There are a lot of signs that it is coming in June - but, as Mr. Co says, nothing official. Still, if you wait for an official confirmation from Apple... everyone else in the world will know by then too. There are a lot of signs that it's coming - AT&T accidentally listed something like a 3G iPhone on their website yesterday, overseas cell companies are fire-selling their iPhone stock and are currently out of stock in several countries, there's rumored photos of the new iPhone... and everything points to June. AT&T told it's employees that they can't take vacation in June....

More hints that new iPhone hardware is imminent is surfacing every day. The most compelling evidence is that both the US and UK Apple online stores have stopped selling iPhones. Both countries online stores list both 8GB and 16GB iPhones as ?Currently Unavailable.? Prices for New In Box (?NIB?) iPhones is climbing on eBay with prices for 8GB units going as much as US$500 ? a US$100 premium.

It's not official, but I think at this point it's unlikely that Apple won't release a new 3G iPhone in mid-June. There are too many "coincidences".

My local news had a story on the iPhone shortage, and the 3G rumors last night. The news will be everywhere soon enough. The time to sell is now. Waiting any longer, will be throwing money down the drain.

Yeah I guess it's all but actually confirmed. I'm going to put it up on ebay tonight with an option of whether the buyer wants it unlocked or not. Stupid question for anyone who knows: If my phone is right now locked with AT&T, should I take my SIM card out to unlock it? Or just run ZiPhone on a newly restored and AT&T-activated phone?

prices on craigslist are already starting to drop. Better unload now while its early... its only gonna get worse.

I've just heard bad things with ziphone. Plus there are reports of people's phones not working weeks after they use ziphone. Along with the fact that it permanently downgrades the bootloader. It would be a shame if you bricked the phone right before you were to sell it.

It's got about 5 clicks, but it lets you learn something about what you are actually doing to your phone rather then just blindly changing things around. Plus if your phone malfunction ipwning can be totally reversed whereas ziphone cannot.

I'm agnostic to the whole which is better thing. I used ZiPhone, and I know of about 15 other co-workers that all used ZiPhone. My mom used ZiPhone... it's certainly easy. It also seems like it's the most popular. The bootloader thing is a potential issue, but you can use WinPwn to put it back to 4.6. It's a fact that firmware upgrades are easier on 3.9... tricking 4.6 is not anywhere as easy as tricking 3.9.

BUT, winpwn gives the most control but it's also got a small audience and it's relatively new. iLiberty+ doesn't muck with the bootloader, but it's also not as commonly used as ZiPhone. Pick your poison... 🙂

What percentage of iphone owners are tech-junkies?
