Why would women and children be celebrating the downing of a US aircraft? If they are, they are still considered enemies. Don't assume that just because they are women and children that they are not combatants.

My dad's friend fought in Vietnam, and he was telling my dad about a time that he gave a candy bar to a little Vietnamese kid. He thought he was doing something nice. As he was walking away the feels something rip through his leg, and he turns around and sees the kid holding an Ak-47. Needless to say he was forced to rip the kid apart with his M-16.

Don't ASSUME anything. A woman and a child can kill you just as dead as anyone else can. You think those kids can't point an AK into the air and shoot a helicopter? I'd be more worried about killing truly INNOCENT people rather than worry about killing a woman or a child. You must take out your enemies who ever they are. Don't let blind political correctness get in the way.

Generally we call in an airstrike and take care of it that way. No extra weight, and no worries about premature detonation

Marshallj, I would not be in favor of timed detonation of fallen drones even if it was technically feasibile (would probably add too much weight, explosive rigging could easily be damaged in a crash).

Why assume every single woman and child in Iraq is combative? That's foolish. Also what about when similar devices are used in different conflicts? To me it's like leaving land mines around waiting for civies to run into them.

I wouldn't assume such a thing. And you shouldn't assume that everyone that's climbing all over crashed spy drones are innocent women and children. That's also foolish. Most likely it will be the people who shot it down, or people trying to gather intelligence from its remains.

If they're climbing over our property, then they have a reason to get hurt.

Do you really think that we gave a crap about that crowd of people that was climbing over our downed Apache?

Also, explosives on downed craft is not a good analogy to landmines. Its just a way to say "Stay away from US Equipment!" Also, You can clearly see a downed drone or helicopter, but you usually don't see landmines easily (for the most part).

It's a moot point. No state secrets are given up by the loss of a camera drone. If that was the case, as with downed Apaches, they'd order an air strike or special forces strike to eliminate the equipment.
