I just watched the movie again last night and now I am thinking about reading the book. How is it? Better than the movie?

It sticks alot to the movie, but books always go into much better detail, in my opinion. I would say it is worth reading.

The movie came after the book, not the other way around. There are some major differences between the book & the movie. A key one is that at the end of the movie the law firm ends up indicted on mail fraud charges. In the book the firm, the mafia, etc. gets busted on racketeering, & God knows what else. Minor things, but still deviations, include the type of car they drive (BMW in the book, & a Mercedes in the movie), how various characters meet their deaths, & what happens on the beach.

The book is MUCH better than the movie. By comparison, the movie sucks.

I read The Firm a really long time ago, so I don't remember the details. However, I DO remember it was better than the movie (as usual).

The only exception I can remember offhand, I liked the movie Dr. Zhivago better than the book. But I was pretty young then.

The book is much better. The Pelican Brief is another example of a good book made into a movie that sucks.

the book is much better than the movie. after reading the book first, and then watchng the movie, i felt a little cheated because the movie deviated from the book and changed the ending.

Oh, yeah, I read that one awhile ago... I read the book first, and the movie seemed choppy, like it was bouncing from thing to another, and skipping so many details in between. I loved the books ending, but it seemed to me the movies ending was a cop out, to make everything 'Happily ever after'...

John Grisham is a lousy writer. "The Firm" was a so-so book, but it was better than the movie with its strange way of dealing with the mob.

"oh, gee, Mr.mobguy! I really, really, want to be a lawyer!!! So anything you've told our firm I can't reveal to anyone, so you're safe -- so please let me live......... And be a lawyer! Pretty please!!!!!" And then the mob lets the lawyer who can destroy them walk away into the sunset.... Happly ever after....

The book's ending was more true about the way this man life would end up.
