My highest run ever - 141 points from a full 15 red-ball rack. I've ran the table from the break many times and have ran in excess of 120 points countless times. Started playing the game in my single digits and had to quit after the Big C. Had I been born in England and been exposed to their game you would have seen me on TV alongside or instead of Steve Davis.
In this country, snooker seems to be very localized with few people really ever being exposed to the game.
We no longer have a parlor in my town - there used to be two rooms with 4 snooker and 2 pool tables in each.
Our local rules were always a bit different than in other locations where I played (mostly with regard to the scoring of fouls, break rules, and rail rules) but not so terribly different. I have the priceless memory of walking into a room in Charleston, SC to find several elderly men playing on a snooker table. I was in my twenties and came in with a nice cue so they all kept eyeballing me. Finally coaxed one of them to play me a game purely for sport (actually prefer the game played for sport rather than money though I've done lots of both). I shattered the rack, ran the table, cased my cue and walked out of the place. Bet those old boys talked of that for awhile.
Our American 10 foot snooker tables seem dwarfed by the big 12 footers of Canada and Europe. I'm sure playing on the 12' tables would have tamed me a bit but I think not so much.
At 51, my eyesight and nerves would never let me perform on that level again but I do wish there was a local room like those of years ago.
