Have you noticed most idiot drivers drive minivans?

I have noticed many times that people who can't drive or who are stupid drivers typically drive minivans? As if they are safer or something.

A friend and I started talking about it at dinner last night. While he admits that minivans are quite useful, too many moron drivers get them.

Examples:
Nice asspack on the highway...all started by a minivan driver because she was trying to feed her baby in the backseat at the same time while driving. She had 4 other kids too. :p

First time I have seen this. A small wire on the front bumper of a minivan. It tells the driver where the tip of the nose of the minivan is for easier parking. Looks real silly to see this antenna like wire hooked to the bumper and protruding up. Heck, it even smacks the top of the minivan a little when you go real fast down a uneven highway. ;)

Speed limit is 40 and it is snowing quite heavily. The road is not is the greatest of condition. I am going 30 and there is very little traffic on the road due to the weather. A minivan passes me on the left going about 45, but it starts to swerve and then the driver loses control of it. I avoid what might have been an accident, but she spins out and faces the other direction in the wrong lane. Lucky there are no other cars coming. She then goes back the way she came like nothing ever happened. ;)

Any other hillarious stupid minivan driver stories? Agree or Disagree with my observations?

A friend of mine always used to say to avoid them. Mostly because they usually have screaming kids in there too causing all sorts of confusion and chaos and the driver isn't paying attention to the road, my experience has definately shown that to be true in many cases.

Around Boston SUV's are far worse. I know since I have to duck them on my bike.

When I drive down to Ft. Lauderdale the mini-van drivers are the worst. They are usually doing about 100 mph with a full load of family and luggage and weaving in and out of traffic. They also usually do not turn off their brights.:|

I live in MI.

I have to say the SUV drivers here aren't idiots, they are just reckless. I am not saying that is good, but I like seeing people in SUV's watching the road instead of paying attention to the 3-4 kids in the backseat or trying to feed the baby in the carseat in the passenger side front seat while driving at the same time.

That's not completely true, I ran into two completely idiotic people yesterday, one was a black chick in a little sporty blue car, and the other was a white farmer in a big red truck.

Here in Atlanta you have to watch out for minivans/volvos/SUVs. All tend to be driven by soccer moms. IMO the worst are the SUV's....I've seen people knock over all kinds of stuff as they simply can't drive such a big car with any degree of precision. Toss a cell phone and screaming brats into the equation and it's not hard to see why there are so many traffic-halting wrecks every day here.

MiniVan and SUV drivers tend to be erratic. Saturn and Neon drivers tend to drive aggresively.

Big RWD American Car (like Crown Vic) drivers tend to drive slow and with turn signals flashing.

Just personal observations.

dont be stupid..there are so many bad drivers out there that drive regular cars...zeroing in on minivan drivers is moronic in itself....Ive seen Mercedes, BMW, and regular Chevy's and Ford's with horrible drivers...

most of you guys have been driving less than 5 years anyway...YOU are the ones Im afraid of..

**notice I said "most" not all.. :) :) :)

Another vote for the SUV crowd. While most of the minivan drivers I encounter do irritate me, it's usually because they're being overcautious because they have kids in the car. I'll probably be the same way in a few years once I have kids.

However, there are a lot of bad/agressive minivan drivers out there, but I think the percentage is FAR greater in the SUV crowd. Most people I encounter seem to drive SUVs like they're sports cars darting in and out of traffic, riding 2 feet off your bumper at 85mph and whipping around parking lots at 40 mph. Most SUVs handle like $hit and take forever to stop yet people seem oblivious to this and drive like they're immortal.

i would agree. i've noticed late-model blazers seem to hold the worst drivers in that particular state, with or without passengers.

<< Where are you? In this neck of the woods (North NJ) the idiot drivers are SUV drivers. >>

Yea, here in Texas where SUVs outsell mini-vans 10 to 1, most of the "Soccer Moms" are driving Suburbans...

True enough. I've only been driving for 5 years, but I've never been in an accident. I consider my reflexes to be far quicker than those of a 40-year-old overweight man, or a 70-year-old who can't see or hear very well, or a soccer mom for that matter. Also, since I've taken my driving test (both written and road) more recently than most drivers out there, I feel that I know the RULES of the road a lot better. I see tons of people that when driving through a "blinking" yellow light at an intersection, they have no idea what to do, so they come to a complete stop. Or those people who think that turn signals are an option. These are just several example of simple traffic laws that older people don't understand or forget. When I was learning to drive, I had to remind my parents on several rules they were breaking that most people break without realizing.

A: I'm going on 10 years driving

B: Around here, all the soccer moms drive SUVs too. Expiditions/Excursions/Suburbans are all popular.

My last 2 near accidents were both women in SUVs talking on the cell phone. Both at the same intersection...go figure.

The one I hated the most was a few months ago. I was sitting at a stoplight and I noticed a Navigator coming up fast on me. Woman driving, talking on the cell phone. There are stopped cars on both sides, so I couldn't go anywhere. I just had to sit there and watch...thank god she finally looked up and slammed on her brakes. She ended up about 1 inch from my bumper. :|
