Question Have you heard the rumors about 3080Ti's price being over $2000 retail?

Some stuff going around with price photos from Europe. $2000 minimum and as high as $3000 or so. I like it. This should really put the brakes on the scalpers if nothing else. At least that's something. Why should AIBs let scalpers steal their cards for $1000 and flip them the same day for $3000? That just makes the AIBs look like fools to be honest. If $3000 if the market price then that's what they should charge. I'm willing to bet that miners are still foaming at the mouth so hard, selling their own children for GPU money, that they'd still buy up as many 3080Ti's as they can possibly get for their GPU inspired home equity loan. Hash rate limits be damned. The GPUs will sell faster than the pixels on the screen can refresh from "coming soon" to "out of stock".

This has nothing to do with the 3080ti itself right now. EVERY SINGLE graphics card is ridiculously expensive right now, NVIDIA ones even more so. Maybe in a couple of months we'll see.
This also means that the actual MSRP that is to be announced will mean literally nothing in the foreseeable future except for some exceptionally lucky dudes who may find one.

The microcenter near me is selling 6900xt's for $2600. Wouldn't make sense for something in that performance class to be less

Good. GPU market needs to burn down and be reborn at this point.

Interesting but what replaces it?

Part of me is amazed someone else hasn’t entered the market with prices being so inflated and inflated for years.
I know intel will join the party. I keep wondering why someone else hasn’t, I know highend cards take a lot of engineering but what about the low end or mid range? Why can’t lets say creative labs bang something basic and good enough together?
I know manufacturing is a bottleneck but there must be something else.

OMG... and i got my 6900XT at the start of this for 1300 dollars at micro center.
They doubled the price on it?
When did microcenter start scalping?

Interesting but what replaces it?

lets go back to throwing dice on board games. :D
or we can just boycott all the AAA titles, and play games which require no dedicated GPU like Amongus.

I keep wondering why someone else hasn’t,

Too expensive.
Remember this is Intel's SECOND attempt at a dedicated gpu way back before. As much as i loved my i740, the Riva TnT was really where the gaming was at which later on became even more appartent with the introduction of the Geforce 2mx.

^ Too expensive to enter the market makes perfect sense. All of this reminds me of the absurdity of taking such a device for granted for as long as I have. A GPU is essentially a technological miracle that should have never occurred in nature for any reason. It is the product of an enormous technological and economical house of cards that is extremely fragile, all of which is carefully balanced atop the wobbly stone of a highly complex global society. If anything significant goes wrong in any area, the whole thing comes crashing down. At that point, getting your hands on something like a GPU is the stuff of dreams and nothing more. To simply game on a computer requires entire armies of experts all doing their part with extreme effort just to deliver that card to us, not to mention the insane logistics and supportive industries and all the rest. Imagine if a war broke out? I think we'd all get a huge wakeup call and we'd quickly see the things we've all taken for granted.
So yeah, $3000 makes perfect sense at this point. I honestly shouldn't have expected anything different.

Well, $1200 MSRP minimum means $2000+ for sure unless you get a founders (if they exist) and you won't. No new GPU for another generation. Oh well. Maybe AMD supply will improve.

It's also nearly DOUBLE the price of a 3080, which is very close in terms of specs and ram. Nvidia is turning 80 class and Ti buyers into Titan buyers, just like I thought they would. There's no choice but to jump on the AMD bandwagon and just not look back. I just won't pay these prices.

Every passing the day, i do not regret one bit that i paid almost 1800 dollars for my 3090 FTW3.
My brother also does not regret me breaking his budget by 500 extra dollars on the 6900XT upgrade over his original 3080 planned, as i could not for the life of me secure a 3080 yet i was able to get a 3070 + 3090 + 6900XT.

BTW i still can not for the life of me secure a 5900X which i officially gave up on.

moonbogg: was able to secure a 5900x for $750 in Dec of 2020 and an RX6800 for $850 in early Jan 2021.

At the time my gut said prices were probably going to rise and I had to decide whether to pay a premium and get what I wanted or wait to see if the price would drop to MSRP.

Glad I jumped. Have been enjoying this combo a lot.

As for a RTX 3080TI, IF you can snag one for $1500 I would jump at it. $1199 Dream on!

I will say that the 1080TI (Gigabyte Aorus integrated waterblock) that I have teamed with an OC'd 5960x also watercooled is still a stellar card.

You won't see that $1200 msrp. Another paper launch. I've tried since November to get a 3080, every best buy drop ended with my waiting in a queue where my add to cart button turned yellow and did jack nothing when I would click it.

The funny thing is it will still all sell out and for above the $1200 price too. At this point every 3090 that I have seen in newegg is over $2k-2200k.

I honestly don't even know what sites to try to get one when they launch. The all slow to a crawl and by the time it refreshes it's gone.

IF I could get a FE 3090 for $1500 I would pick that over the 3080Ti, that's pretty obvious at this point.

Where are you? And how far from Microcenter? Here in Chicago suburbs, I see 5900X on regular basis and without any surcharges - myself I ended up picking 5950X from Microcenter

Clutching tightly to my sub $800 RTX 3080 I stumbled across back in Nov 2020. I was in Micro Center on the 5000 series CPU release day. Didn't get a CPU, but a shipment of 3080s dropped while I was in the store.

I gave up long ago. In fact this entire fiasco is probably what will push me out of pc gaming in general, I barely play new AAA games as it is. Now with the insane prices its pushed me over the edge I think.

pick up a console to complement you PC gaming? I love my Total War/Warhammer which I can not get anywhere else , however I am easing into the Xbox/gamepass ecosystem and find that generally it is 'easy' - turn it on , go to 'store' , click download, click play. i do miss modding part of PC gaming (i build my own mods for Warhammer to play the way I want to or experiment with things or great mods for Mass Effect Andromeda or still enjoy Skyrim from time to time), however I can not force myself to pay $2K for video card even if i can easily afford it - makes me feel taken advantage of..

Yeah I'm looking into the PS5 whenever it comes out in stock. Just seems like a far superior deal at this point. Heck I can buy two of them for the price of a 3080ti at regular msrp let alone the scalper prices.

AMD 5900X CPU? I got one from Amazon a couple of months ago. I actually canceled an order with Impress Computers in Texas. I know I've seen dozens of Discord bot notifications for the 5900X.

Not including an EVGA 3080 XC3 Ultra that I was able to get by just walking into a Microcenter which I flipped already and a 3090 FE that I got from Best Buy and sold to a friend, this is my EVGA collection. You can ignore the 1080ti which I got back when it first came out but I got the 3090 FTW3 from Amazon via Discord Notification and the 3090 XC3 and the 3080 FTW3 from being in the EVGA Queue. I plan to get in the queue on 6/3 9am PDT to get a 3080 Ti.

5950x is easier to get now. My microcenter finally has some in store since I checked this morning.

For GPU's, people at the microcenter 15 minutes from me line up the day before a truck arrives with stock, usually the night before after the store closes.

I get paid either way but I will never take a day off to wait outside in a line for a chance, not a guaranteed purchase.

From the discord channel for microcenter in my area, people have waited in line all night to be told the next morning there were like 2-3, 30 series that came in.

Same experience with my Micro Center in Overland Park, KS. OP MC just (5/30) ran out of 5950x stock after having them in stock for about 3 weeks. GPU stock replenishment days are hit and miss. I'm with you regarding not waiting overnight for a chance at buying a GPU.

Not that I'm looking as I've had my 5900x since before Thanksgiving, but if you looked online did it have the reserve option available on it? My closest Microcenter has the 5600x and 5800x in stock with the option to reserve for instore pickup.

Typically no reserve option (at least in Chicago area), just stock count on hand . their inventory is pretty accurate and if you see >20 in stock, unless you have multiple hours to drive it is pretty much assured you will get a CPU if you are making a trip.

The writing is clearly on the wall for me this gen. It's not happening. There's no way in hell I'm paying over a grand for a GPU. I just won't do it. Besides, I have roughly 50% of the 3080Ti performance in my rig right now for ZERO extra dollars! The big issue is obviously the chip shortage. It stifles competition and availability of competing products, so the prices just go crazy and they'll probably sell out instantly anyway. I think I'm over it. Seeing the prices makes it very easy to be over it.
