Actually if you listen to each CD i feel they're all pretty different. Self titled album is very chill for most songs, not a lot of pyrotechnics or solos with pretty much the only exception being super-fun. Disorganized fun is VERY solo heavy (guitar sound, stay crunchy, throwing fire). Days Away is more based on chords and definitely more mature than the self title. He still rips it on a few tracks (mainly my favorite of the album, Piano Wire).

Maybe I should give his new album a try.

Meh. Can't really get into his music. I'll admit he has talent. Not sure I would agree that he is a "genius." Just my opinion though. My brother was a child prodigy on the piano, so I've been around lots of musically inclined people my whole life. Even the best of them I wouldn't designate a "genius." Indeed, most of them are incredibly talented musically, but are equally flawed in some other respect.

I guess I don't really understand why you guys think he's so amazing. Don't get me wrong, he seems as talented, probably moreso than the rest of the modern day "musicians" that just queue up prefabbed beats and mapped sounds, but I'm not hearing anything special here. I'm sure he's a nice guy, and again, I'm not trying to say he sucks, I just don't really know why everyone is like "yeah he's fucking killing it bro!".

Granted, I'm not a fan of a lot of this music in general so maybe that's the issue.

I agree with you. I think it's a relativistic response. He's putting out original, well made music on Youtube which is otherwise filled with top professionals, people doing covers, or complete garbage. It makes him seem more amazing than he is when compared to the competition.

Not that you're even being especially critical, but did you listen to the ones tweak155 linked on page one? Particularly disorganized fun.

I personally enjoy his music because he is able to take relatively complex parts, combined with some prefabbed electronica, and make it catchy but not boring. THAT is the part that is difficult, not the piano pyrotechnics. Most people can do one or the other, but having a good blend of both that isn't a complete trainwreck is much more tricky. Its the same reason STS9 has a very passionate following.
