Have you had to do a self review at work?

Are you hard on yourself or do you praise yourself a lot? I just did mine and I was kinda hard on little ol me, I don't know if that's a good or bad thing though...

Every year!

I praise myself to the nth degree! Of course I add a few things I still need to work on but nothing I failed at.

I used to.. every quarter you had to set your goals/project/improvements for the next quarter. then at the end of that quarter you give yourself a grade for each of those goals/projects/improvements

i guess i figure if i'm kinda hard on myself i will feel good when i get a higher review from my boss (which hopefully happens), and if i overrate myself i will feel like scum if the actual review is lower. eh whatever

Only had to do it once. That was when we had the supervisor that didn't like me. I just rated myself the way I thought he would, and I was pretty much spot on. I think I took some of the fun out of it for him, because he was looking forward to basically telling me how much I suck at everything except programming 😛

Had to do one after I got an average review/raise when I was doing above average work. It didn't make a difference either way and I transferred out of the deekhead's dept shortly after.

I have to do one every year. I try to be as impartial as I can.

I do point out where I dropped the ball even though my boss didn't know, and I also point out things I did over and above the requirements that he didn't know about. No matter whether he agrees or not, I want him to see that I'm being truthful.

I've done very well in my career by being honest all the time. It allows me to get a lot of things done outside the system where others are forced to comply with a lot of red tape.

I have to do one every year when I get my supervisor's review. My team lead once told me "It's your opportunity to shine and point out what you've done for the past year." So I use it as such, any shortcomings or missteps my sup already knows about anyway. I try to keep it all positive and shining (of course, with the standard "there's always room to learn and improve" type of stuff.)

of course. I mean who wouldn't rate themselves "super, duper, A, number 1, doesn't get any better then this, give me a promotion"

I have to do one by next Friday...I hate these things. I'm always waaay too critical, my boss always sends them back and asks me if I really want a raise or not. If I give myself a glowing review I always feel like I'm just writing a bunch of B.S.

Why the fvck am I doing my own review? Isn't that your job??? 😕

Nope its yours - your career is your responsibility, not the manager. We love to toy with staff making them prove they need a 2% raise, knowing that we've budgeted for large raises for the top tier and next to nothing for everybody else. The ones that are hard on themselves just make it easy to increase my bonus because I don't have to give them a raise.

Therefore coming in under target, the difference of which is paid in the form of a bonus. So do you really want a raise?

Those are fvcking retarded. The only thing worse are those two way performance reviews where you review your boss, those should come with all the 5/5s precircled to just save time.

No, it IS your job. My job as peon is to do the grunt work. Your job is to tell us how good or bad we are. But it's typical of PHB's such as yourself to pawn off as much work on us Dilberts as possible. 😛
