Just got one yesterday because of a hip injury. Made me feel quite dizzy afterwards and I don't feel totally normal yet. Also, I experienced some PNS (peripheral nervse stimulation) which I was pretty sure isn't supposed to happen. Overall, it was a pretty unpleasant experience that I hope I never have to go through again.
 
Aside from radiation there are no side effects from MRI's that I know of. I've had at least half a dozen and never felt anything other than sleepy from laying still for ~30 min (lumbar spine).
 
Had one on my ankles, other than it being loud in there and cold from the fan somewhere at the end blowing on me it was fine. I went to sleep.
 
Have had three. The newer machines encourage less claustrophobia than the old, which is helpful for some. I have found them more or less relaxing. They are loud, but I am sure I've come very close to falling asleep once.

They are amazing devices. The new ones use larger magnets than the ones just a few years back and allow much better clarity.
 
There should be no side effects like that unless you had a mental reaction to the confides of the machine or if you have metal plates in your head you neglected to let them know about.

MRI doesn't use (ionizing) radiation. It uses magnets to align protons to get the image iirc from ochem.
 
Had one last friday. It was ok. Just REALLY, REALLY LOUD. Even with earplugs in.

Although I gotta say, I am generally not claustrophobic (kind of the opposite, I find confined spaces comforting in a way), but being rolled into that thing, I could totally see how it could freak someone out. Like being rolled into a tomb.

No brain, you poor bastard. I had a bone scan done of my entire body. I can confirm that my skull is full of what appears to be brain matter. It was kind of weird looking at my own brain.
 
had my 3rd last Friday and experienced none of that. I just rested for about 45min watching the Olympics and was done. Almost dozed off since all that was showing was a women's long distance race
 
Had one for my wrist and remembered as the tech fired it up that I had the key for the locker in my pocket. Luckily I was in there kind of Superman style (arm extended forward). If I had felt that key move at all I was getting out of there.

But no ill effects.

Oh yeah, had the panicky claustrophobic feeling with mine a few months back. I had to have my head locked in a cage with a Hannibal Lecter style mask on. They rolled me in the tube and I couldn't take it. About 10 seconds of confinement and the fucking tube practically touching my nose was all it took. Slid my ass out of there and told them to put me in the open MRI machine, which was much better.

You got an expensive test because you thought you had a tumor and you wanted "to be sure?" God I hope this is a joke.

There is no radiation from the MRI, hence the name Magnetic Resonance Imaging
 
2 knee, 1 head. No affects at all.

The second one for my knee was the most painful experience in my life though. I had to keep it still which was the problem that caused the pain which is why I was in for an MRI.

I concur, it's a pretty comfy test for me. This last one (had it last month in fact) was a bit louder than the one I got several years ago. Maybe I just didn't put the earplugs in good enough or something. They also gave me headphones too, but when the test was going I couldn't even hear them.
 
one on the heart as a volunteer for a study, one on the knees for an injury. No problems other than boredom.
 
I wonder if I am just very sensitive to electrical fields? It could be the machine was teetering right on the edge of the limit of dB/dt of the field gradient..B/c I def. had a few muscle spasms while I was in there. I kind of felt like I got out of a car ride in the back seat of a car that went around some windy hills and turns. It could also be that I am slightly claustophobic which caused me some stress in addition to the loud noises caused by the gradient switching on the coils causing those loud pops and clicks. I have heard some workers at my company being exposes to some permanent magnet machines in the range of like 2 Tesla getting nausea, and this machine may have been producing up to 3 Tesla, although I'm not entirely sure how strong it got. I wonder if it wasn't the magnetic field, if anything that made me feel uneasy, if it was the fact they resonate one's body with certain radio waves frequencies. Perhaps a weird reaction to that.
