Hi,

I was in the tomshardware forums and I was reading that some people have had problems with their MSI motherboards. I just got a new MSI KT3 Ultra and I was wondering if you have had any problems that I should be aware of and have you found a solution to your problem(s). The site for the post is MSI Support/Don't buy

Thanks for all your opinions!

:)

MSI did have a few bad batches of K7T Pro2A (KT133a) boards about a year and a half ago.
Unfortunately, they had some faulty components (capacitors if I recall) that caused complete failure to POST.

Unfortunately again, I had built 5 systems for customers based on these boards and have had to RMA four of them. :(
MSI still continues to issue RMA numbers for these even though the 1 year warranty has expired.

I still continue to run a K7 Turbo (Limited Edition) board in my personal system and have had no problems for over a year.
In spite of their good RMA service, I do not build any more systems with MSI boards because of these past problems.
I can't afford to put my customers at risk.

MSI wasn't the only company that had that problem. The Abit KA7-100 was notorious for the capacitors beside the CPU slot leaking as well. Only MSI seems to have suffered more of a hit to its reputation than other makers, probably because the K7T Pro2A was pimped pretty hard (and rightfully so, IMHO) as the best KT133A mainboard of its time. Therefore, a lot of folks who had never heard of MSI went out and bought one, had the caps wind up leaking, and their first experience with MSI wound up souring them.

FWIW, i've built perhaps a dozen systems with MSI boards (not a huge number, i know) and not had a problem with a single one of them. Your milage may vary of course, but everyone i've built a system for using an MSI board has been happy as can be with them.

quite happy with my current MSI K7Master DDR socket A board, and I am building currently a new rig with MSI K7D Master dual athlon MP 2100+'s, hoping this board is as rock solid as my current MSI

I've had to RMA a pro2 and pro2-a that died as well and MSI informed me they have 3year warranties, 2years parts&labor and 1year parts. The turbo model had the issue fixed though and as was mentioned almost every company experiences issues due to recieving bad parts from suppliers and so forth, so yes I'll probably use their boards again down the road when I get the bad taste out of my mouth so to speak :)

I have had 3 Pro2A boards die in the last couple of weeks. But we use all sorts of MSI boards at work with no issues so far.

had a turbo board die wasn't the bad caps though some voltage regulater smoked on it. it was just out of the 1 year warranty period but they replaced it anyway with a turbo LE. I used a few msi boards and that is th only one i have had die on me. still running my old k7 pro in the kids box.

i had their KT133a mobo and my brother has their KT266 board. total sh*t boards... i will not buy another one of their boards ever. they always try to rush to market--their nForce board was first on the scene and was total crap. their 760MPX was one of the first and one of the worst. if you are going to shell out as much money as they want, you might as well get quality like Asus or Abit or Epox. i've also made a few computers with ECS and had better experiences.
