Those of you who have had side effects that are more than soreness at the injection site - do you get flu shots regularly and have side effects from that other than soreness? Just curious about anecdotal experiences.

I signed up for my first dose on Feb 11th. I'm not sure if it's Pfizer or Moderna though. I get flu shots annually and only have soreness at the injection site for a few days. It's not enough to hinder me from working out or anything though, it's just there for like 2-3 days then goes away. I'm hoping that is all I experience but I'll have to wait and see.

My experience was this:
Flu shot for most years 4/10 pain for about 24-48 hours (some years the pain can be less severe). No other symptoms.
Pfizer COVID-19 #1: 3/10 arm pain, but lasted ~48 hours. Arm pain was the only side effect.
Pfizer COVID-19 #2: 5/10 arm pain, lasted 24 hours. Body aches and minor headaches x 24 hours.

78-83% of the recipients in the Pfizer vaccine trial had any arm pain in age 18-55. 66-71% in those age >55.
More systemic side-effects on the second dose

5/10?
At worst I've experienced 2/10, and that is when I try to sleep on that arm or bump it, otherwise 1/10.

Won't be getting the vaccine. Wife and I already had COVID and beat it, as well as our two adult children. The kids had not even been anywhere near us or each other in months prior to contracting it. I was completely asymptomatic and the wife was only mildly affected, same with the kids. I just wasn't that bad for us, fortunately. I had blood drawn and have antibodies now.
I have also never had a flu shot and at 61 years old have only had the flu twice in my life. Got a pretty good immune system, also heard my blood type O is good to have.

Glad the dice rolled in your favor. Not everyone in your age bracket is so lucky.

Hopefully in the near future we'll have control of this thing and it won't be as wide spread, or as lethal. Having it gone would be the best case scenario. My sister's coworker died of it, and I know a few others who did, as well. We were lucky!

You still should. Having recovered from it to my understanding is 3-6 months of good protection up to one year of moderate protection.
Not sure when you had it but keep this in mind.
BTW at 60+ you should be getting a yearly flu shot even if it is just to prevent hospitalization.

Yes, even using your numerical scale for generalized pain. As I explained to some of my family, it felt like my older brother had punched me in the arm, on the hour, every hour, for the past 24 hours for COVID#2 shot the following morning. Ibuprofen cut it down to a two.

In the Pfizer trial, 27-31% had moderate pain for those aged 18-55, while for those >55, 15-18% had moderate pain .

Thank you UNC Health as in University of North Carolina. If in region go to my chart call the number listed and register as a guest. You will be able to see and register for a vaccine. Took a week of trying and I got my first jab today about 60 miles from home. I got the moderna jab. and an appointment for round 2 on March 2.

Just got an email from Kaiser that my doctor was requesting an appointment. I check online and they changed my vaccine from Moderna to Pfizer keeping my original appointment, but changing my second appointment to about a week earlier. Yikes. At least it wasn't cancelled. Don't care about which mRNA vaccine I receive.

Stupid VAMS keeps offering me 2/14 (17 days) for my second shot, which is supposed to be 2/18 (21 days) according to the the DHHS. The EMT who gave me my vaccination card said don't book an appoint b/4 2/18 or I'll be turned back. Yay, so much winning.

Edit: Took an appointment on the 15th, now I'll just have to see what happens.

Still waiting on five different waitlists in the DFW areas. Such a mess. My wife on the other hand gets her second shot today because her school district partnered with Dallas County to get all their 1B staff vaccinated.

Hopefully the natural immunity from having Covid tides me over till I can get the vaccine.

Husband and I got our 2nd Moderna shot this morning. So far no arms have fallen off. We'll see how things feel tomorrow.

You get more limited immunity the milder your case is, you should both be getting the vaccine. Everyone should be getting the vaccine that can.

Well, I sure hope I get a vaccine this Saturday. Damn Kaiser sends me another eVisit request to sign up for my COVID vaccine. Double check my existing appointment which is still there. Then start to go through the new eVisit thing just to see if the right hand has no clue what the left hand is doing and sure enough, I should sign up for my COVID vaccine. I'd call these people but trying any communication beyond what's online is impossible at this point.

Pfizer dose #2 recommended on day 21
Moderna dose #2 recommended on day 28
... thus moving dose #2 up a week

Oh I realized that. The Yikes was well, Kaiser is seriously reducing my confidence of what will be happening Saturday afternoon at this point.

Received first dose of Moderna vaccine about 30 min ago. Little bit of arm soreness but only two bars of 3G so far.
The first dose is mostly batteries. The antennae are in the second dose.

Getting 2nd dose of Moderna on the 11th (at work/school). Fiancé is also getting her second dose (lagging one week behind), she works in preschool / daycare. My parents are over 65 and just got on the health district list with an appt for the 26th of Feb for their first dose.

To elaborate on what Fanatical said:

Please get the vaccine even if you've already been infected. Natural immunity pales in comparison to what the vaccines teach your body to do. And while you probably won't suffer any more serious reactions if there's another infection, you're still playing Russian roulette — that second infection could have a higher viral load or reach parts of the body that weren't affected the last time.

I’m scheduled for tomorrow. My GP doc called, they had doses coming in today however many of the workers declined the vaccine. So with knowing that I was in for the vaccine I was offered. I jumped at the chance.

Done!
Well, at least the first dose. Absolutely no issues not even the sore arm. Very pleasant experience, everyone was in a jolly mood. They ask you to wait for 15 minutes in the facility AFTER the shot, I guess just to make sure of no immediate reactions.

Now, just waiting to see what happens during the next full moon.

I would worry more about growing a tail and scales and craving to burrow into a creek bed and hibernating until the season changes.
