Here, they don't allow one to schedule the second appointment until the first shot is administered. This is to avoid scheduling second appointments for no-shows from the first appointments. While the primary method of getting the vaccine is through appointments on a patient portal, the county is accepting eligible walk-in traffic at the vaccination site to avoid wasting vaccine doses. Walk-in folks are signed up for the portal on the spot and schedule their second doses through the portal. The line for folks with appointments moves much faster than for the walk-in traffic.
Seemed like a good idea. Got my shot yesterday (Pfizer), couldn't schedule my second shot till April 1st!!! I thought I'd get some sort of priority to get close to the 21 day target - nope. 6 weeks late - but hey, at least I'll have something like a 50% probability of immunity in a couple weeks. To say that I am pissed off would be putting it mildly. People in power will be getting calls, not that they can likely do anything about it.

IIRC, CDC decided that a max of 42 days is ok. First I've heard of 2nd doses being intentionally scheduled that way though...

I just had my first dose. I didn't even notice that I had been injected, the EMT said 'little pinch' and I never felt it. Very narrow gauge needle and only a 0.03 mL dose. All the syringes in the EMT's medical pack were pre-filled. I fell asleep early last night, and woke up sore (@ injection site particularly) and groggy this morning. After morning prayers with my wife and a large coffee - I feel asleep sitting up on the couch! When I woke back up I had more muscle aches and was sluggish, took three ibuprofen and a cetirizine (I took one yesterday just in case). I have asthma an it was definitely triggered (allergies are my biggest trigger). The EMT did say that Advil was here friend after her shots. I think I'll be pretty well off tomorrow, but I'll still take an antihistamine for a couple of days just in case. Oh, and oddly, I am horny like a teenager - not that I'm complaining.

The dosing site was very well organized but signage wasn't hot - I drove past it the first time because a berm hid the large parking lot. The NH National Guard managed the site, there was an ambulance and a fire truck on scene a portable 'command' trailer and a largish army tent (hopefully heated) for supplies and what not. Firemen parked us and collected our forms and EMT's did the injections and 15 minute followup. I was given a CDC Vaccination Record Card with suggested return date and was on my way after a total of 30 minutes on site.

IIRC, CDC decided that a max of 42 days is ok. First I've heard of 2nd doses being intentionally scheduled that way though...
Yep, they put me exactly at the 42 day limit. Strange - I guess NH DHHS is really trying to get shots in as many arms as possible. Thanks for that - state officials won't have to put up with my, uh, somewhat aggressive manner of dealing with stuff like this thanks to you.

In my state, I'm not in a bracket that gets vaccine allocation, so I'm not eligible yet. My wife will be *if* there is a determination for her district to return to in person learning. I'm 100% for getting it as soon as my bracket opens up allowing me to.

Just got my first shot of Pfizer about an hour and a half ago, second shot scheduled for 21 days later. In and out really quick at the University Hospital vaccination center at Wonderland Mall in San Antonio, Texas. Probably less than 20 minutes total with ten of that being monitoring for allergic reactions after the shot.

Wow, in Texas! Some how I did not expect them to be so well organized - no offense. Congrats!

Okay. I'm confused. Did I miss something?

Ajay says he got first Pfizer shot yesterday and his 2nd isn't until Apr 1.
K1052 says that's okay 42 days is the max.
Ajay says "Yep, they put me exactly at the 42 day limit."

I keep looking at the calendar and Jan 28-Apr 1 keeps coming up 62 days no matter how I count it. That's 3 times what it's supposed to be. Does not seem to be right or even acceptable to me.

The only thing you missed is me sucking at calendar math :confused_old:. So, once again, I will be on the horn Monday chewing out some poor fucking bureaucrat who just wants to go home to his wife and kids and have a beer. Thank you for bring this to my attention, let the beatings begin. Anyone what to take bets on my getting a hold of someone in the governors office? I'm not living in some post-apoplectic anti-science state.

Thankfully, it is passed business hours at the capitol; so I will have a relaxing weekend building computer stands for our standing desks (too many cables come up short - and cardboard boxes will look awful in the living room). And, while I'm at it, making a list of people I know in politics; six degrees of freedom FTW.

Thank God I have some Southern Comfort in house, haven't made a liquor store run in a while. Eh, no beer though...

Have to wonder if the site also got the scheduling wrong since that is well outside present guidelines.

Here's hoping you can reschedule for an earlier time without much trouble.

That sucks. I have heard a lot of horror stories like this. My mom and mother-in-law just got their first shorts last weekend and it was thankfully a smooth process. Their insurance made the appointment for them and second shot it setup in two weeks. My uncle who has insurance though a company called Kaiser got the run around and had to sit on hold several times to get his first shot.

Oh and if you need some beer, I believe total wine delivers if you have one near by.

Ugh I would hate to have to go through insurance to get these shots. The mass vaccination sites in town (San Antonio, Texas) just announce when signups will be available and then I would keep hitting F5 on the page right before sign-ups open until I can get a sign-up link. Snagged one for my mom then about a week later got one for myself at a different mass vaccination site. Both sites scheduled follow-up shots for exactly 21 days later, everyone out here gets a CDC card with their follow up shot scheduled on it.

They did make a copy of my Medicare card when I got dose #1, but they made it clear that it is not necessary to have medical insurance to get the vaccine.

Two weeks? I did some reading on the CDC site when I was having trouble scheduling my second dose, and the optimum window for dose #2 for Pfizer is 17 - 21 days, with 21 optimal. Going beyond 21 is better than going less than 17.

I got vaccination through a county-run clinic. If you have insurance, they bill your insurance. If not, you get the shot anyway. It helps spread the cost around.

Had a little bit of a headache last night from getting the first dose of Pfizer about 1PM yesterday and went to sleep early, but feel great today. Injection site hurts a bit though, which is funny because I barely felt the shot when I was actually getting it.

Just remember that being vaccinated doesn't exempt you from getting the virus.

Now I wonder if big pharma exaggerated the efficacy of their vaccines? J&J says theirs is only 85% when the others claimed to be in the 90%+ range.

Two weeks from now so 3 week's total.

The vaccine is free. Insurance is being billed for administering the vaccine dose.

Air is free, but you gotta put quarters in the air pump at the service station to inflate a tire. which BTW sucks.

Weird, in Texas of all places they're not asking for any insurance info. I was asked Name, address, phone #, SSN, marital status, whether I had been in contact with anyone who tested positive, and what work I do. My parents said the same when they got their shots. A couple of cousins who got the first shot also said the same.

Correction sorry, I said insurance and should have said medical group. In the case of Kaiser they are both. Looks like the wife and i will have to wait until March.

I guess I will find out when/if I get a bill from Kaiser. 7 days. Fingers crossed.

Here's what the CDC says:

.

Vaccine doses purchased with U.S. taxpayer dollars will be given to the American people at no cost. However, vaccination providers can charge an administration fee for giving someone the shot. Vaccination providers can be reimbursed for this by the patient’s public or private insurance company or, for uninsured patients, by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Provider Relief Fund. No one can be denied a vaccine if they are unable to pay the vaccine administration fee.

Grandson said Paramedics at his department are being hired at $34/hour to administer shots.
