Got my appointment for Monday morning at the county health department. The amount of vaccine is still very limited thus are appointments. Called yesterday and they told me the appointment system wasn't online yet, but I did ask for and got a direct phone number to call this morning. Took a number of tries, but actually got through after almost an hour.

While on hold on the house phone I was using my cell to try to get through on their main phone number, and that apparently was completely overwhelmed as I either got a AT&T or Verizon recording the call could not be completed.

At this point they are only making appointments via phone because us old folks don't do technology.

My wife got hers(Pfiezer) and will be ready for the second shot on Monday.

They're lagging a lot with distribution in my area and are still on the 75 or older populations at the moment. In the past few weeks, the health departments had a major supply chain snafu that caused them to turn people away that were scheduled. I'm sure it had to do with either transport or storage issues/concerns. My wife can help me jump the line to get the Moderna vaccine, but I'm just not going out and will wait another 3-4 weeks to see what things are looking like. I probably won't have to wait in a long car line with the rest of the folks around here when that time comes. I'll just do what makes the most sense.

I can't wait for my parents to get their vaccine.

The state has further broken the 1b group down to 3 groups.

That might be CDC recommendations, but Texas didn't follow that. Here 1b is 65+, or 1+ chronic medical condition. At least in Texas.

Washington State is moving glacially. Not sure what's going on. A new secretary of health showed up last month and he is still trying to get up to speed. 1st line health workers, and senior care facilities at this point. Kaiser's not even putting out an ETA. I figure April at the earliest at this rate. And I will be in the over 65 group.

This season's flu shot left my arm a bit sore for about 3 days, which isn't my typical reaction. I got in my left arm, and I sleep on my left side which didn't work so well, so given the choice I'll get the COVID in my right arm. I'm expecting Morderna, as I think that was the last shipment the county received.

I had a slot last week but turned it down as there's a bunch of people who are at higher risk in the hospital than me. I'm in a fairly safe clinical area now.

I'm pretty pleased with the way the UK is handling the roll out. Apparently we have inoculated more people than the rest of Europe put together!

Just got my mom a slot for Sunday. Pfizer this time. Relieved and really happy to stop combing the internet backwaters of FL. I hate how getting this relies such persistence and the ability to relentlessly scour every lead, it is not fair or reasonable.

I saw an interview with Dr. Sanjay Gupta describing what his parents who live in Lee County, Fort Myers area, FL had to go through to get an appointment for a COVID vaccine.

The county announced that they would give 'tickets' for 900 vaccines at the public library starting at 8:00 in the morning. His parents, both in their upper 70's, camped out all night in their car at the library, along with probably 1000+ other people over 75. They got there at 1 AM, and were able to score some of the last spots, like number 829 and 830. He showed a picture of them holding the tickets, like the kind school raffles use, with the number written with a sharpie.

Tell me how that is anything but obscene. This wasn't to score a cheap big screen TV at Wal-Wart on black Friday, but for our presidents wonder "warp speed" answer to the pandemic, but how things are done in third world countries.

The more I read about the challenges people are going through in an effort to get on a list I'm feeling really lucky that I got my appointment for the first day. I was lucky that I talked to someone at the health dept before they started signing people up, and had the foresight to ask if there was a direct number, as the phone tree is lengthy with all the routing stuff, and the woman gave me the number.

The next morning, it took me only about 30 minutes to finally get through and get an appointment. Local media had a story on it, and all 2,000 appointments they were accepting for January are gone by the end of the day. One guy interview spent 8 hours trying and never got in, between disconnects and the call just not going through he ticked off 98 attempts.

I feel my county has done a halfway decent job of handling this, given the limited doses they receive each week which is controlled by the state. I'm sure those that haven't been able to get an appointment yet will disagree with my assessment.

A good friend was able to get an appointment for her 88 year old mother, as my wife shared the direct number with her.

Keep in mind that in less than two weeks the fucking incompetents on the COVID "Warp Speed" task force like Kushner, Pence, etc., and the rest of the occupants of the clown car will be replaced with competent people.

Watched a briefing to county comissioners by head of the health department, and the COO of the hospital here. He stated that a portion of hospital staff are choosing to not take the shot. I speculate these are people that while involved in patient care, are not caring for COVID patients.

Their supply of vaccine is seperate from both the federal program to immunize those in nursing homes run by CVS or Walgreens, or those going to the health department for the general public. He stated the excess would be offered to other health care workers that are not linked to the hospital, such as dentists, hygienists, or medical people that work for private practices.

I have no evidence, but we will have to learn after 4 years of a president that just makes shit up on the fly, that Biden has probably, or someone on his behalf, have had conversations with Pfizer and Morderna if productions is at the level this is a viable solution.

We really have some new habits to learn, and the first is that what comes from POTUS shouldn't not automatically classified as pure bluster and bullshit.

Just got home from my appointment at the county health department. I was impressed on the organization and flow.
Not allowed to enter building until 5 minutes prior to appointment, but they tell you that when you enter the parking building, also enforced at door. The governor has mobilized the NG to help with vaccinations, and they are dealing with these logistics.

Things went smooth inside, fill out paperwork area, then to 2nd area where they take paperwork and insurance card, then into room for the shot, then escort to 15 minute observation area, then validate parking and leave. Total time from appointment to leaving 20 minutes, including the 15 minute observation.

I'm now Pfizer'ed and go back in 3 weeks.

Nothing has fallen off.... yet.
