Have you ever used an online service to find a roommate?

I'm buying a house in the next few months and am considering trying to find a roommate to lessen the financial burden. Have any of you guys used craigs or roommate.com to find a roommate? I'm a little leery, but the extra cash flow might be worth it.

OH GAWD YES!! IT WAS TERRIBLE!!

Dont wanna put you off im sure theres some decent non-loser non-criminal junky types on these roommate sites. I used sites for the UK, my city specifically and i got a group of people that consisted of:

1- stuck up irritating not hot english girl
2- gothy type chicks, not hot and argumentative too
1- former drug addict guy, looked creepy

They sucked, absolutely no redeeming traits boring, poor, awful taste in accomodation :roll: needless to say i ditched emm. It took me ages to find some decent people and by that time all the good flats were taken 🙁 so i ended up back in halls (not so bad since one of this years flatmates is fun for a change).

So um, make sure theyre not lame first. I would meet with them to make sure *they* fit *your* standards. Dont just let anyone into your bought house. Make sure they have a picture! Its shallow but you can judge pretty accurately what somones like from a picture, i guessed right about 8/10 times from my experience.

I found this place off of a website that I won't recommend, but not because my roommates are bad. However I'm in a small college town so as long as they are students I had a good chance of not ending up with wierdos. Results in a city may vary.

Tell people you know about it, they might know someone personally looking for a nice place to stay.

I found a good place to live and have found good roomies all with craigslist.

I would try personal connections first, but I found my house through an internet roommates thing. I live with two other people who are in law school, and I'm in pharmacy school. It worked out fine. Just talk to them or see the place before you decide anything, and you'll be able to say no and just move on if they are crazy. You can tell who's normal or not.

Craigslist is a great tool. I haven't been matched with it (got a sweet efficiency), but it gave me options. Definately interview people first & have a prepared list of questions beforehand.
