I once bought a ham to take home for christmas for 60 euro or so.
And I also learned that those giant scallops cost around 1 euro a piece. I only went with a tiny bag, but there were definitely bigger bags available.
I think the half wheel of Raclette which I bought for a party a couple of years ago ran at 40 euro or so.

But then I live in the land of milk and wine... Talking of which, obviously spirits and champagne run up higher tickets.

Good Parmigiano-Reggiano imported from Italy is expensive. Though it's a bit of a mystery why it's sold in big wheels at the grocery store. I would think something like that would only appeal to restaurants. If you're just grating it, a big wedge lasts awhile.

Even not importing it is expensive. I was a cheese shop and I remember seeing many cheeses at 15 euros a kilo.

Thinking about it, I wonder if those truffles were $1k per /ounce/? They were black truffles, and that would put it more in line with the guy's $75 per gram for white truffles. A bargain really in comparison :^D

Cheese is usually quiet expensive in Canada due to an archaic quota system run by the feds, as well as tariffs on dairy imports. There's plans in the work though to get rid of the quotas. Which should give a big boost to smaller cheese producers.

i still spend money like i did when i got my first job out of college, at less than half the amount i make now. i buy like %95 of my food at aldi. there is no way i would buy crab, or fancy cheese, or any fancy food ever.

Not sure how that is a WHITE problem. I know a lot of Asian people that spend a ton of money on high quality fish and Black people that do like crab and lobster and fancy cheeses.
