Have you ever seen anyone get murdered or killed?

No. I was working on Kodiak Island in Alaska and one of the guys didn't show up at work. Later we heard the story.

While driving to work some girl jumped in front of his truck and commited suicide. The people in the area said it wasn't his fault. The girl had tried this before.

So she died, but he felt terrible.

I just feel I could of/should of stopped it, but I watched a friend shoot his girlfriend.

well that's phuked up. did you freeze?

pretty much. he came into the party, and they started arguing. i figured it was just a fight in a relationship, no big deal. they both were invited to the party so no one was out of line by being there. i went up to them to see if things were ok, and he just pulled a gun and shot her in the chest. i was about 4 feet away when it went off. he just ran and everyone there just let him run. geezuz, why did i bring this up.

this was about 8 years ago, and yes i had to testify in court. these situations just get uglier and uglier. court was almost as bad as the act.

my god that is horrendous. I doubt you could have done much in the split seconds it took him to whip out the gun anyway. as for people letting him run out, they were probably quite stunned and not really even sure what they had just seen.

Saw the aftermath of a motorcycle wreck when I was in college. Dude laying there with his head split open and brain in three chunks on the ground (no helmet...). Very disturbing image I will never forget. Story was he got cut off by a truck and hit the curb. Thats all it took...I'll never ride a motorcycle after seeing that.

Now I work in a hospital and respond to "codes" (CPR, defib (shock), intubating...all that kinda stuff). Most people dont make it... I watch people die about once a week on average. Have seen some CRAZY stuff...

I too work for a hospital and respond to codes. While it is a small town hospital, we still see some crazy stuff.

i have seen several dead bodies but never the act of death. one was in a wrecked car and two were on the highway. one of those jumped from an overpass onto I-85 in downtown atlanta and the other was on 400 and i believe they were trying to cross the highway.

man this thread is depressing. How do you guys/gals get over the mindphuk that this kind of thing does?

I seen a fatal car accident, but I did not see the body. I was behind this guy when he lost control of his Jeep in Maine during a snowstorm and went into the guard rail on the right side of the road. His car went right over and it fell ~ 50ft down onto a riverbank.

I seen a black guy shoot another black guy right in the head about 10 years or so back. The guy ran away, and I said to myself "lol, thats ****** up." I honestly didn't think much of it, didn't even bother to tell the cops what I saw.

EDIT: Quite not "lol", but I remember thinking something along those lines.

maybe

i was 13 years old, 1979
we took a trip to Chicago in the summer, my dad had a convention to attend so he flew out and the family drove out in the station wagon

we decided to go into the city to the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago ( http://www.msichicago.org/ )
we got lost and exited the interstate in the wrong "hood" and this happened:

a big car, like a Lincoln town car or Cadillac was chasing a small car, something like a ford pinto, they passed us, then the big car got in front of the little car and slammed on its brakes and blocked the small car. the small car had a couple of women in the front, maybe some kids in the backseat. the driver puts the pinto into reverse to try and get away. the driver of the Cadillac jumps out, he has a pistol and as the woman runs into a street lamp or mail box trying to reverse and escape, the guy with the gun opens fire and blows out the windshield of the pinto. by that time we were a couple of blocks away, so i don't know if the women died or not

it was very traumatic for me, a rural farm boy to see this urban violence at that age

That part about 'most people don't make it'. They really gloss that over in the movies and TV shows.
I went through that with my dad in a supermarket. Heck, I was pushed aside by an RN and a respiratory therapist husband/wife team, and it did not mean squat. His number was up.

About a year ago I saw a guy jump off an overpass of I4 in Lake Mary, FL. He bounced off about 10-12 vehicles before hitting the ground (or so the news said). People just kept on driving by. On the way back, there were tons and tons of police cars and ambulances... You could see tire marks made with blood in the highway.

I saw a guy right after he jumped off the roof of a pool hall onto concrete - apparently he had 2 dozen beers and a couple of acid tabs. Splat. Also seen people get carried off from raves in ambulances due to ODs and dehydration etc. Some of them were dead I'm sure.

Ha...I like how you felt the need to let everyone know that the two people were black.

Kosovo in 98 and my father in 03.
Both of which I've talked about on Anandtech before. Dont really feel like sharing again though I will state the obvious.

Sad music does not play in the background and (if you are ready for it) its not quite as mind-boggling or disturbing as some movies would have you think. Just sickening.

the way my father explained it is that every time you see it it fvcks you up a little less.

Watched a friend 5 feet away put a pistol to his head and pull the trigger when I was 15.

He was crashing at my place and just out of the blue pulled it out and bang, that quick....never could get that image out of my head..🙁

A couple years ago I saw a Chinese business guy drown or actually saw him after they pulled him out of the surf. 🙁 I have a blurry pic somewhere of them taking him away on a stretcher.

I had debated on whether I should've gone down to the beach that day or not and I've thought about that a lot ever since because I know if I was down there I could've rescued him. (I've been a certified Red Cross lifeguard since I was 15). I ran down to the beach and tried to help spot him but by the time they found him he had been under for a good 15-20 minutes.

It just haunts me because I know if I was down on that beach that day I could've saved him. I saw him several times before he died sitting in the parking lot smoking cigs while I went to walk my dogs. We nodded friendly-like towards each other and I knew there was something about him I would never forget even before I saw him dead.

yes I've seen people actually getting killed. not fodder for playful gossipy talk.

also when I was a lifeguard I've had to recover dead bodies of suicide people from the ocean. not fodder for playful gossipy talk.

please try to turn your mind away from the morose, toward uplifting positive things

Agreed!

I've seen enough dead bodies to last me a lifetime. It's very depressing just to dredge up these thoughts.

Somebody needs to start a hot babe thread or something, lol.
