I was "hypnotized" during our graduation party. We were seated in a line up on stage and told to close our eyes. The instructor pushed me over to prove that my body was limp. My head landed right on another girls chest and I just stayed there. Everyone in the crowd was laughing hysterically. I was completely alert, but I am good at keeping a straight face. I just sat there with my head on her fun bags for a pretty long time. It was a girl who I dated in like junior high, so I dont think she cared. She was pretty, so it was all good.
They taped the event, but I have never seen it. I wish I had a copy so I could send you guys a copy of my "moment"
I think hypnotism is just a bunch of shenanigans.

LMAO - haha

Meh, I've been to a show before in high school... one of my friends went up and went through the regular stuff, acting crazy becuase he was hypnotized.
After the show he said that he wasn't hypnotized at all, he just wanted to act crazy in front of the whole school.
In conclusion, I have my doubts about the whole thing.

Private hypnosis by a real certified therapist is real. The subject must be willing and suggestive though.

Those mass hynopsis shows are fake. People just go along with it because they want to.

I used hypnosis to quit smoking

That's funny ...I took up smoking to quit hypnosis. I once read about the evils of drinking ...I gave up reading.

I had 2 friends that said the same thing after a similiar situation.

Sorry to bring this thread back to the dead.
I was first introduced to hypnotism from the graduation party.
I called shens at first, until I read the howstuffworks.com explaination on it.
My mom talked to me about hypnotism before, and I told her I was interested. Two days later, I found a book on my table, "Professional Hypnotism Manual"
I got lazy, and I was never arsed to read it.
Today during my long boring hours at work, I decided to bring it there to read it. This book is amazing.
Hypnotism is REAL without a doubt. It tells you how it works, and now I've learned how to hypnotize people 🙂

Different people have different levels of suggestibility. There are two types, Physical and Emotional suggestibility. People with physical suggestability are the ones that take information in literally, and people with emotional suggestibility are the ones that take in information inferentially.
Most people are a mix of both. A person that with high physical suggestibility, tends to take commands literally, and is easily hypnotized by literal commands, such as, "You are getting tired, and you will fall asleep"
A person with high emotional suggestibility, are the ones that can't be hypnotized at the shows. It takes special methods to hypnotize them as they need to be convinced that they are getting tired and will fall asleep.
Hypnosis works by sending lots of data to your concious mind until it can't keep up and stops functioning, allowing the hynosist to communicate with the subconcious mind. Your subconcious mind controls what you were conditioned to, to your natural and most primitive reactions(such as fight or flight), your religioius beliefs, and habits. Through hypnosis, the hypnotherapist is able to change any of the parts of your subconcious mind.

I'm only half way done with the book, it's a very interesting read. The last chapter is self-hynosis. I think I'm going to skip to that now 🙂

FVCK I JUST HYPNOTIZED MYSELF! MY BODY IS NUMB AS FVCK!
THE WAKENING METHOD EXPLAINED IN THE BOOK DOESN'T WORK! I COUNTED TO 5 AND SAID WIDE AWAKE AND IT DOESN'T WORK!
I'M FVCKING COLD 🙁

I tried it out once, really gave it a shot. Only felt a little relaxed, but that was because I was trying to relax and breathing deeply. I'd call it a crock if I didn't know that it really works for some people.

Well I did the test in the book, and I'm actually 50%/50% emotional/physical suggestible.
The book says people that are 50/50 are most easily hypnotized.

Took me a good 10 minutes to regain sensation in my body.

lol at virtualgames0, let us know if you ever get out of the trance. 😀
edit: oh you did.

tell us how you did it. i'm bored. lol.

I won't teach you guys how to do it, because if you don't know how to condition yourself, you'll just end up making yourself worse.
Here's a summary though - Sorry for the format, I was IM'ing my friend how I did it and I just C/P it :
you have to take out your hand
then concentrate on it
then you have to think about what you're feeling in your hand
then think about that same feeling going across your body
then you have to read these lines to yourself
basically about the feeling going up your body
until you feel it in your head
and you begin noticing your breathing
when I read that breathing line, I began to pant hard
and my heart started throbbing
and i lost all senstation in my body

that sounds cool virtual! did you manage to hypnotize anyone? i might look into this book... i want to dance!
