Have you ever seen a hypnotist/been hypnotized?

Is it true that some people really are more "suggestible" than others, or is everything planned out beforehand?

I'm going to go to a comedy hynosis show at the end of this month... I've always been curious about those "adult-themed" hypnosis shows, but haven't seen any advertised around LA.

I don't think I'm very suggestible, so hypnosis probably wouldn't work on me. Still, it might be interesting to try.

my close friend participated in a show. I'm convinced that it works, at least on some people. He didn't think anything was gonna happen either. They allowed the show to be recorded and my friend said he didnt remember doing those things. Where do you find out about events such as these?

I participated twice, once in high school and once in college, and I was not in a trance either time. Though I wouldn't be surprised if some of the other students were.

~2 months ago. I went with some friends who actually went up on stage, but I stayed in the front row of the audience. Got hypnotized anyway :D.

Yes. It's very relaxing. I usually can't nap during the day, but that hypnotist sure did put me asleep.

I've been hypnotized before. More or less you're just so relaxed you don't care what they suggest and do it anyway. But you have to be willing to do it. You can't order a hypnotized person to jump off a building.... unless that person's a moron.

For High School graduation they did this thing called project graduation (big party with no alcohol or drugs), they had a hypnotist there... I went up, got hypnotized. My parents still have a tape of it. I've gotta say, since that day, I'm quite a different person.

It works. It's also true that some people are more suggestible and go under easily. Some people are difficult and will never go under when they're in the audience in a live show. Generally anyone that's ever been hypnotized will go under easier in the future. If you understand how it works and refuse to be hypnotized, you'll never get hypnotized, it can't happen against your will.

When I was in college a performing comedy hypnotist came to the campus and did a couple of shows. A bunch of my friends and I went because we heard it was good. One of the group had played around with self-hypnosis as part of a new age phase he went through in high school, so he was very suggestible and went right under. The hypnotist planted all sorts of code words in the subjects so that when he used them they felt, did or said something. He could make them all swear or dance in the aisles or flap their arms like a bird on cue. One of the suggestions what that when he said the word "lemon" all the subjects would feel as if the person sitting behind them was goosing them. As luck would have it we were sitting in the last row of our section, so nobody was sitting behind my friend. When the guy said "lemon" the guy still jumped up out of his chair looking for who was goosing him. I honestly don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life.

I've seen people be hypnotized, including a friend of mine who was sitting right next to me, but it would never work on me.

Doesn't anybody take psych 101?
Yes, it is real, but not everyone can be hypnotized, due to how peoples' brains develop. The more fantasy prone you are, the more likely you can be hypnotized. People will not do anything hypnotized that they cannot do normally.

No, guy's name was James J. Mapes. He used to do a great comedy show, I think he's moved more into corporate seminars, motivation, communication, etc.

I don't know if or how it works, but there is a place near me with a sign that says: 'Hypnosis and art gallery".

I just wonder if everyone who goes there to get hypnotized ends up buying a painting!?!?!?

One of my old managers from a job I had many years ago went to a hypnotist to quit smoking and it worked, she had smoked for longer than I had been alive, that was a pretty good sell for me there that its possible.

Yes I remeber everything the hypnotist asked me to do. I remeber doing the moonwalk on stage. That got a lot of applause :D. There was a pretend your on a roller coaster bit, crazy hand, and a few others.

This was during my first year of college. I think it helped that I was extremly tired before the show. And I remeber feeling like I had taken a nap after the show.

I was "hypnotized" during our graduation party. We were seated in a line up on stage and told to close our eyes. The instructor pushed me over to prove that my body was limp. My head landed right on another girls chest and I just stayed there. Everyone in the crowd was laughing hysterically. I was completely alert, but I am good at keeping a straight face. I just sat there with my head on her fun bags for a pretty long time. It was a girl who I dated in like junior high, so I dont think she cared. She was pretty, so it was all good.
They taped the event, but I have never seen it. I wish I had a copy so I could send you guys a copy of my "moment"
I think hypnotism is just a bunch of shenanigans.

I've been hypnotized by more famous hypnotist who has been on a number of tv shows. Under normal conditions you are fully aware of everything that is going on. For the tv shows and such, they do some work on you to get you to blank out.
