Have you ever seen a celebrity in real life?

I like how people think because they met someone once, for a brief moment, they can judge whether or not they were nice or jerks. Maybe they were pretending to be nice? Maybe they were rude because they had a bad day? Hmmmm.

... Bill Murray does live in Charleston I will undoubtedly never meet him.

Don't be so sure. I hear he likes to encounter random people. I don't remember where I heard this, but I heard he ate a fry from someone's table at a restaurant and said "no one will ever believe you."

most people are describing their encounter and first impressions.

I've met a handful of celebrities because I know someone who is friends with a bunch of celebrities. The experiences don't really seem that special to me except for the fact that they were rich. They actually seemed a bit more boring than normal people.

Thechive.com has Murray sightings all the time. He will crash random parties, show up at random bars, just randomly show up at places and be awesome.

Oh quit pissing in the punch.

Shenanigans! Dead men don't buy drinks 😉

Ha! Sat next to him at a dinner show in Vegas, he was tickled to death that I recognized him 🙂

Celebs are funny like that- some love to talk to their fans, others are horrified that you breathe the same air that the do.

Ran into Pauly Shore about 10 years ago in Sioux Falls, SD, of all places. He was stoned out of his mind and bummed a smoke off me.

While waiting to see a Lewis Black show in Las Vegas my wife and I went to grab a coffee when who gets in line right behind us but Lewis Black himself. We chatted for a little bit and my wife gave him shit. It was cool.

I would have shat myself that very instant.

I did 😀 My jaw dropped so hard I still have scars. It's actually an interesting story:

I was 17 at the time, and Jimmy was playing in Detroit on his Outrider tour. I just HAD to go to this, so I bought my ticket with a friend, and then asked my mom if I could borrow her car to go to a friend's house that night.

We drove the 45 minutes from Toledo to Detroit, watched a fantastic show, and then on the way out of the show my face turned white: I DID NOT HAVE THE CAR KEYS ON ME. My 17 year old buddy and me were in the middle of downtown Detroit after midnight and I lost the car keys!

We walked the car hoping I dropped them in the parking lot, and it turns out I locked them in my car. We went into a bar next door to the lot (I still remember they were blasting Kokomo from the Beach Boys), and asked to use their phone. The police said they do not open cars, and there were no locksmiths available at that time of night.

Some seedy guy behind the bar heard our plight and said "I can get that car open for ya...how much you got?" We had exactly $5 in cash between us...and he took it.

As we followed our savior out the door, a chunky, scraggly looking guy walked in, and behind him, was JIMMY PAGE! I walked right past him, said something about "WOW! I loved the show tonight!" He said "Thanks", we talked for a few seconds, and I had to go because that guy was waiting for us.

Saw a great show, met my hero, averted being grounded for lying about the car...it was a great night!

Also, once, when I was a kid, the family was on vacation out west somewhere (Utah?), and suddenly came across a shitload of vehicles pulled off on the side of the road. Dad decided to stop and see what was happening, and we found out they were filming a scene from the 70's TV show, "Alias Smith and Jones". Got to watch them do take after take, as various modern day life kept intruding into their 19th century cowboy scene (jet noises overhead, someone's styrofoam cut bouncing across the scene, driven by the breeze, etc). Was a combination of interesting to watch, and yet excruciatingly boring, too!

Cool, I remember that show!

Is it time for one of these threads again?

Many of the parents at my kids' school are famous and semi-famous (actors, producers, directors, pro athletes, etc.)

I have met a ton of famous people otherwise. These are only a few of the pictures I have had - many others have been lost through the years.

I thought this was about actually hanging out with the celebrity. I am pretty sure at least everyone unless in the dumps of the country have seen a celebrity whether they noticed or not.

We have many celebrities as close family friends from both where my immediate family grew up and the fact that we have a few nationally known surgeons in our extended family.

I went to highschool with a chick who's a well known singer in my country and she went to Eurovision Song. She borrowed a history book from me once and underlined like half of it, I was so pissed. She looks foxy in music videos, but they must be using a lot of makeup, she's average looking in RL.

I should really go to TIFF, probably tons of stars to see. My dad saw Richard Gere last year.

Probably the most famous person I've seen in person is Rachel McAdams, I saw her shopping in a mall. She was dressed rather plainly and looked very unglamorous. She's quite tiny. Supercute though, even without much makeup.

I have met a lot of science fiction actors from ST:TOS , DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, B5, Stargate SG-1, SG:A, BSG, Sliders and other sci-fi shows. I have worked a sci-fi convention for 17 years. some of my favorite people I have met are Melissa McBride from the walking dead. She is scared of large crowds but she walked up to me and started talking before an event. I had not seen the last episode of season 3 and she really wanted to spoil it for me.

I have ate dinner with Richard Hatch of BSG on several occasions.

I peeked into the "Green Room" while Virginia Hey from Far scape was signing items. She saw me and invited me in. She was lonely and wanted talk to someone. 🙂

She lives in my apartment building. I chatted with her at the mailbox on Friday. She has a Bassett hound named "Lincoln" and she doesn't like to shake hands with the residents, even though she does attend most of the social events.

Pretty sure I saw this guy at the gas station today:

I have met quite a few musicians over the years (and a few pro athletes at different stages of their careers), some well known and some not so much. Some of the more recognizable names: Met Cliff Burton, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett in 1985. Played Nintendo with Chuck Billy and Alex Skolnick of Testament on their tour bus in '89ish, and hung out with Shannon Larkin (then Wrathchild America, now Godsmack) at the same show. Hung out on the tour bus with Chris Cornell and the rest of Soundgarden before one of their shows, and drank beer with Tommy Victor and Prong after their set. Others include Jake E. Lee, Pat Benatar, Phil Anselmo, Carmine Appice, Doug Pinnick, Tom Kiefer, Sevendust, David Draiman, Drowning Pool, Pete Rose, Corliss Williamson, Johnny Bench, Dennis Eckersly, Rocky Gray and John LeCompt (formerly of Evanescence/We Are The Fallen, now Machina) and so on. I am friends with the guys in Nonpoint, Eye Empire and Surrender the Fall.

When I was a kid I ate in Bill Clinton's kitchen when he was governor of Arkansas
