Have you ever "Reverse Pranked" someone?

When I was a freshman in college, the guys on my hall would sometimes go through the university phone book and call random people. When the person picked up the phone and said 'hello', the guys would play a computer file that would say something like 'hello, this is the police' or something like that. I think there were lots of different lines. Anyways, I'm a junior now and about a week ago I get this prank phone call that was the exact same thing. I have caller ID so I found out the guy's phone number, and I got a friend that has access to a database to some student records to find the guy's name and where he lived. I called him back and said 'Hello, this is Bill Myer from Informatioin Security. May I talk to [guy's name here]'

Guy: [whispers to his friends] holy sh!t

Me: 'Sir, I can hear you breathing, so you might as well say something

Guy: [too scared to say anything]

Me: Sir, we've been receiving numerous complaints about you. If you don't stop your harassing phone calls, I will proceed to beat you with a live fish and i know you live at [his dorm room #]. Thank you.

click...

Then the next day I printed out a picture of some guy holding a fish and mailed it to his mail box.

Anyone else ever 'reverse prank' anyone?

The fish was alive, right? Otherwise he knows you're lying!

Good joke. I woulda picked something else though. Something like, you will led to a dark alley full of big men named bruno. You won't be beat up though, they're VERY friendly.

in HS i used to have this neon orange lock (for my locker) that REALLY stood out. it didn't always lock well, after closing it you'd have to turn it around a couple times

well one time i didn't close it well, and when i got to my locker the lock was gone..... oh CRAP someone stole it. luckily my stuff was still there.

as i was leaving school, i happened to spot my lock (the only orange lock in school).... awwww yea! so i quickly unlock it and took it back.... and someone's stuff was in there so i took the stuff out and left it out in the middle of the walkway

i guess i could have done worse things to that person's stuff..... but i've always wondered, if they were going to use the lock, they didn't even know the combo! (unless they thought it was broken, but then they wouldn't be using it)... and they didn't realize that the person they stole it from would know the combo

we scared the crap out of some guys my freshmen year.

there were some other freshment from one of the othr dorms that decided to try out their hacking skills one night. well of course i noticed it immediately and so did the guy next door to me. so we traced their ip until we had it down to the name of the person. then using the campus directory we found the guys name, school address and home address. so its now 2 in the morning and we decide to call them.

PHone conversation goes like this.

Hi may i speak to so and so?

Speaking, may i ask who is call.

Ahh yes is this so and so from so and has a home address of ?

Yes it is, may i ask who is calling.

Ahh yes this is made up name from Resnet Securities. We have found taht you seem to be trying to hack certain computers. (The guy is now real uneasy.) We would like to set up an appointment to meet with you and the dean. Your actions will not be taking lightly and you will be punished.

(guy is now crying) But sir my friend and I were just playing around we didnt mean any harm. Please dont report me, my dad will kill me.

Well this was a great laugh, to hear some moron crying on the speaker phone at 2 in the morning.

Usually (at least at our university) the IP is static and bound to a DNS like murdocky.rcn.orst.edu (my IP last year)

Of course I'm on cable now so dont bother trying to connect :)

we had the persons i and there dns suffx. at our school dns suffix is usually something like dorm-xxx-x.resnet.purdue.edu. well the x's are the room number. so we hadthe dorm name and room number. from there we did a reverse search by residence to find out names and phone number.
