I'll be finding this out for myself soon, as well. It looks like I'm being put in as the technical for my project. I've been asked several times in the past and been semi-pressured into it. We'll see how it goes and if my PowerPoint skills grow exponentially. But I know I can go back to a developer role in a year or two if I don't like it, so...meh.

I was offered management at a higher salary. I've actually been doing the job for 10 weeks while they looked for alternative candidates (HR requirement) and hated it so I declined their offer. I spent more time in meetings during these last weeks than I had in my life time. I was bored to tears and hated all the administrative stuff I had to do. The new manager starts tomorrow and I can be a pure network/server tech again. What a relief.
