Have you ever received a grade you didn't deserve?

I just checked on my grades, one teacher has posted. I was so sub par and mediocre in that class, I didn't deserve above a C, pulled an A. My AutoCad class I am sure I will pull an A, we had our final Monday and it was basically a get-together to eat. We all brought different dishes. Human Resource Management, I don't think I will be so lucky. Last semester I had a teacher who gave me a c yet my grade book showed me to have an 80.6. I can't really complain as I have received several grades I did not deserve.

Because my work didn't call for received grades. Not sure the reason I receive higher or lower in some cases.

Yes. I didn't show up to this class for two months and came in just for the final. Copied some notes from my friend before the test started, and the few notes I copied just happened to be specific questions on the test. The rest was easy stuff, basic evolution concepts. It was also multiple choice so some answers were given in the test. Easiest C+ I ever got!

Generally, it's okay when professors give you a higher grade than you deserved. Often times they base this off of your work ethic or attendance, or simply because they like you. I've had many grades bumped up from B+ to A because I was a "good" student.

What isn't good is when you get a grade that's lower than what you deserved. If you earned a percentage based on the teacher's expectations, they shouldn't be able to suddenly inrease their expectations in the end and give you a lower grade.

Well, I was a week late handing in my final coursework to my programming teacher. I gave him my half assed assignment and before he even looked at it he looked at me and said "you're good right? You do pretty well? Here, is a C okay?"

I said sure and that was that

Sure did, lots of times.

Sometime students forget that teachers are people too. The aren't perfect or always objective in their grading process. They have good days and bad days like the rest of us.

Yup, am about to receive one in a class where the professor waited until mid-November to give a sillabus, has taught nothing at all, and gave us NO guidelines for the assignments.

The question is, how does she keep it. They have those standard forms they give everyone each semester to rate their professor. I (honestly) rated her a 1 out of 5 on 11 of the 12 categories.

Not sure.

I had a research paper in 12 grade that I let the AP english teacher proofread. He said it was an A paper but my english teacher gave me a 60/100.

She never really made any effort to hide her dislike for me.

I can't think of a time I ever got a grade I didn't deserve. I either coast through and get C/B grades or actually apply myself (or the class is REALLY easy) and get an A. *shrug* Never had a teacher grade me up or down based on how "good" they thought I was either (to my knowledge).

In HS, AP Physics, I had the highest grade in the class, 87% i think (maybe 85%) the next person below me was at 75% and the lowest in the class was 60%. The teacher gave us all B's. I asked him, wtf, he and he gave me some bs answer about AP test and how he thinks his grade is a reflection of that. Instead of screwing over my friend who had the 75%, I just left it alone.

It seemed like all of the time. Like I'd expect to get a C or C- and end up getting a B or B+. What pissed me off the most were the times when I expected an A but only got an A-.

I got one that I'm still bitter about (almost 10 years later).

Phyical chemistry: final worth 40% of the grade, 5 questions, thus each question was worth 8% of your overall grade.
[*]I was #1 in the class before the final.
[*]Final came and I just wasn't in the right mental state. Two reasons: (A) my GF of 3 years out of the blue told me she wanted to see other people the week before and (B) the chemistry building just started renovations so right outside the classroom there was a jackhammer running on/off during the entire final.
[*]I missed one word in the directions on one question due to my poor mental state. So I did that question partly wrong. Every step on the question I did correctly, but due to the missed word, I got the correct answer in a way the teacher didn't want. I thought the directions said "Do use XXX method". Instead the directions said "Do not use XXX method."
[*]Professor gave me 0 points on that question. No partial credit at all for all the correct work and the correct answer. Max I could get then on the final would be 80%.
[*]I had gotten one other minor thing wrong on one other problem. My grade on the final exam was then 77% (give or take 1%, its been many years and my memory is failing).
[*]Professor decided grades were too low, so she decided to give anyone with an 80% or higher on the final a 10% bonus on the final. Thus, someone with a 100% on the final would get 110% recorded; someone with 90% on the final would get 99% recorded; someone with 80% on the final would get 88% recorded; everyone else got no bonusses. 5 people in the class got the bonus, and no one else did.
[*]After the bonus (that I just missed out on), there were 5 people ahead of me in the class. Most just barely ahead.
[*]Class was on a curve where only 5 could get an A in the class.
[*]I got a B+.
[*]Professor said "Tough luck, I was being nice by giving bonus points to help people." Of course she failed to realize those bonus points unequally applied would harm people too. And you can't contest grades due to bonuses.

Why bitch and moan? I had a scholarship that required straight As. I lost $1000, lost recognition in the school, etc. all over one simple word. And I even got the correct answer on that problem.

Haha, those mean jack sh!t, unless it's a GTA or a lecturer. As long as the professor is pumping out publications and bringing in grants, the universities don't give a flying fvck about teaching ability.

I would have taken that straight to the Academic Ombudsman

I had a C/C- the whole semester that I took Discrete Math. Somehow I pulled an A-. Either I nailed the final or the prof gave me credit for actually trying.

i just finished an MIS class and got an A...i think i deserved an A+....i didnt get the + because of 'participation' aka, i didnt go to class enough...but i aced all the exams and when i was there i made lots of discussions and i even did an option presentation at the end of the semester...the teacher liked me a lot...and i still only got an A...oh well :/...
i think if you can get an A+ on all your exams without going to class you obviously deserve an A+ in the class

Not until grad school.

I've gotten a 4.0 for 6 out of 7 classes and a 3.9 on the other. A couple classes were very subjective in grading and while I did well I don't think I did perfect which the 4.0 should reflect. I later worked with the one that gave me a 3.9 and he basically said it was a 3.9 because I didn't get 100% on everything which made sense.

I still haven't gotten one grade from this quarter and since the class was well out of my comfort level and background I would be highly shocked to get higher than a 3.5 but who knows, grad school continues to surprise me with inflation!
