I feed crickets to my Emperor Scorpions. The other day I decided to "Chill" them a bit (the crickets) to give my scorpions an unfair advantage.

I left them in the fridge for about 25 minutes. When I opened the bag they all appeared dead. Not one was moving, and all had their legs and arms stuck out in the death throws.

30 minutes later I heard chirping and looked in the bag. They all had returned from the dead. Alas though, my "Zombie" crickets are in my scorpions belly's now.

I saw a video (CKY2K, I think) where Bam Margerra put a bee in the fridge for about a half hour to get it to pass out. Then he tied a peice of string to on of the bee's legs and set it out in the sun.

After a few minutes the bee woke up and started flying around. He could only fly as far as the string would let him.

It was pretty funny.

Hm... this may help with feeding my newt, but the frog needs no assistance. The newt has a tendency to move slowly though, but the crickets are generally stupid enough to stand right in front of him just long enough for him to lunge out at them.

As Naked Frog has done, I have only done this in order to ensure my Scorpions caught their prey. With three (scorpions) in the tank and some smaller than others it must be done to make sure each scorpion is fed.

I am not doing this for the pleasure of torturing crickets, I do it out of need. I was sad when I thought I killed them all, but happy when I realized they weren;t dead.....then I fed them to my scorps, so they were dead again.....thus I grieve:(.

I will supply pics tomorrow. My camera's at home and my scorpions are here at my office.

It's not mean. It's what happens in nature when winter comes. I didn't stick them in the freezer, just the fridge. Plus I did it to feed my pets, not out of malicious intent against crickets.

When I was a kid I used to freeze things in the freezer. One day I put 3 snails in a cup of water and attached a rock to each one to weigh them down so they wouldnt float. I put them in a freezer for about 3 days. Came back and saw them all frozen in one cube so I brought out the cup and left it in the sun. 20 minutes later they were unfrozen and moving around! To this day I have no clue how they survived that.

I feed crickets to my anole, green tree frog and fire belly toads. If they're not moving, they won't eat them. Sometimes I have to blow on the dead ones to make them appear to be alive =)
