Making pizza dough and sauce from scratch would be feasable, but I doubt it's worth the trouble or the extra buck or two. Pizza sauce is only 79 cents at most stores around here...it would cost me $1.50 or so to make it myself and it'd be more trouble. ;)

But you can make your 100% own pile of burnt ash :)

fixed....hehe

i hate store bought frozen pizzas that burn on the outside and are half raw still on the inside.....(hence my burnt ash fix above..lol)
one cure for that tho is to drizzle a load of olive oil around the outside crust and cover it with a bit of cheese....

edit: btw, why does it say 'other' in the poll?..lol.....

yes.....quite a bit.

One of my favorite quick ones is a canned crust, bake it for 7 minutes with some italian seasoning on it, then cover with sauce, sliced mushrooms, and cheese....bake 7 minutes more

i have, and it tasted damn good. however the total price of materials probably was double that of a pizza i could get a papa johns/mr jims/ joes pizza because i diddnt have alot of the stuff laying around ( like whole milk mozzarella / pepperoni etc. ). plus it took ~2 days to make ( used good eats recipe ).

Because in most cases there's someone who does something really weird with their food I wouldn't know of.

yes, but in terms of time, effort, and taste, I'd much rather just call the pizza place down the street and get a couple pies delivered.

Yes, I have, and it's great, but it's so much easier to just heat up a Freshetta or Jack's or something, so that's what I almost always do.

basic marinara in my home.

4 of those big cans crushed tomatoes like 30 ounces ea?
1 8oz can tomato paste (tiny little can).
2-3 tblspoon of carrot juice.
a few garlic cloves
a few pinches thyme, basil, oregano, black pepper.
maybe 1/2 teaspoon ev olive oil?
some clarified butter.

in saucepot, cook chopped garlic in clarified butter until it gets that cooked garlic-y flavor. (roasted garlic works really good here too). add everything except olive oil to pot and set heat to high. stir pot around crushing and smushing the tomatoes until you get a sauce-type deal and let heat on high for a little bit until it starts to do that bubble thing. Lower heat to simmer stirring every so often. Add olive oil. Cook like that for a freakin long time(like 2 hours) and done.

alter this as you wish with meat or cheese or cream or mushrooms or whatever. I'm sure my parents stole it from someone else anywho considering they usually cook korean food instead.

Hit up FoodTV.com and search recipes for "pizza pizzas" - that has Alton Brown's recipe for pizza dough.

The key is high-gluten flour (bread machine flour). Even with regular bread flour, I couldn't work the dough as well.

Pizza dough is VERY easy - hardest part is kneeding, if you have a bread machine or stand mixer with a dough hook, that's not a problem at all.

I wouldn't attempt to hand-kneed pizza dough. It'd take forever.

a food processor with a dough blade works well. i got a food processor for christmas and it has one, i was skeptical, but it worked damn well. i make my own pizza a couple times a month at least, sauce too. i also make focaccia pretty often, great for sandwhiches

once or twice a week, for the past three years. i do a pretty mean thin crust, but our newest favorite is grilled pizza.

i'm still looking for that perfect chicago-style deep dish crust recipe, though...

You can't just have people sticking their arms into a 400 degree oven!

I've been really tempted to try Alton Brown's Good Eats pizza recipie. Do any of you who tried it think it was worth the effort? The sauce didn't sound too hard, but the dough sounded like too much trouble. I have made pizza from scratch just like I have built computers from scratch. I buy all the pieces and put it together. I haven't ever made my own sauce/dough nor my own video card/ram.

Even the inexpensive breadmakers have dough settings & they work great...

Also, gluten; mentioned earlier can be added to flour, I've been doing it for years, larger grocery stores stock gluten in the cooking section, just throw in a tsp with ingredients...

LOL, the internet is maturing-I just found pizzamaking.com & it's forums:)

Pizza Hut's dough reciepe is one of the better ones, you just need to do a raise before throwing the crust. Gives a better crust than Pizzahut and it's a pretty solid pizza crust.
