I've killed many squirrels, some grouse, turkeys, and lots of deer. They were all eaten. And, all were killed as humanely as possible (quick death.) That is, with the exception of super-squirrel. Super squirrel died, but it took a while. First, my brother shot it with his shotgun while it was hanging out with his friend in an oak tree. It fell from the top of the tree <thump> and layed there dead on the ground. My brother ran over to it so he wouldn't lose track of where it was in the brush, and while he stood there straddling it, it reincarnated itself and took off running... toward me. Well, I hated to shoot it so close up, but at about 15 feet, I blew it to smithereens with my 12 gauge. It went flying back at least 5 yards & layed there dead. Suddenly, it sprung back to life and took off running again. I shot it again. It must have flipped half a dozen times through the air from the impact my 12 gauge delivered. Then, it came back to life again! It ran about 20 yards from me, and finally died. There was nothing left. I'm quite convinced that the world was lucky that day. Had that squirrel gone on to reproduce, by now the squirrels would have taken over the world.
Oh, and I have a farm, so I've killed plenty of other food. Plus, I've euthanized a few animals. I hate doing that, but I'd rather not leave animals suffering. i.e. baby rabbits whose mother abandoned them. Bucket of warm water & they peacefully drowned (not even a day old). We've attempted to keep some rabbits alive whose mother wasn't caring for them... it just prolongs the inevitable & increases the suffering.
