Have you ever killed an animal?

Curious due to the recent animal-related threads.

How many of you have been directly responsible for an animal's death? Deliberately?

In the interests of full disclosure, I have. I've put down a cat after this BASTARD boy shot it up with a BB gun over and over (and it was still alive), and killed a guinea pig for a friend's biology project (she was too squeamish, for obvious reasons).

I've also witnessed it indirectly a number of times, from slaughtering chickens for food to hitting deer with a car to having pets die in my arms.

I know that if this mild confession made it into the news media, there would be piles of comments calling me sick, twisted, a waste of human life, etc. But are these just the cries of the extremists, or are most Americans that insulated from actual life and death?
I think that it is more common than people realize.

I once sped through a group of pigeons thinking they'd all fly away around the car. They did. Except one. So you could say I did the act deliberately but didn't think I'd kill anything (as dumb as that sounds).

I don't think anyone would call you sick or twisted for any of those.

Shouldn't, but I can 100% guarantee that if they had some sort of short news story in which that was featured prominently, the comments would be full of it. Just check out any Youtube video.

I mean, maybe putting down the cat would be OK, but drowning a guinea pig for a biology project is certainly a sign of Nazism to some overly sensitive netizens.

I grew up out in the country, so there were tons of animals everywhere and I had several guns. I've killed one squirrel, one finch, and two sick raccoons. The squirrel and finch were when I was 12 or so, raccoons 14 or 15. I also caught a woodchuck with a towel once. It was great until he shit all over everything and I let him go

plenty on purpose. and they were fucking tastey.

a few on accident. only one was sad though
Last year, one of our guys went out to look for a deer that had been hit by a car and was dead on the side of the highway.
As he was driving along and looking on the shoulder for the deer, he hit and killed 3 more that were standing in the road.

When I was 12 or so I caught a sunfish in a nearby lake. I wasn't angry or anything, I don't know why I did it... but I chucked the thing as hard as I could straight down at the water surface. It hit on its side and made a huge slapping sound, then just floated there for at least a half hour, till I left. I guess I killed it. (background info: I'm a huuuuge pussy). I cried about that for a few days.

In high school bio I skipped school about 4 of the 5 days during which we did our guinea pig dissection. My lab partner, who was a girl, had no issues with it. I told you I'm a huge pussy.

When I was in my early 20s a possum ran out in front of my car and I ended up running over its head. Gross as hell, but I didn't feel bad or anything. Don't want to get hit by a car, don't run in front of it. Darwin 1, Possum 0.

OP, you said you actually had to KILL the guinea pig for your HS bio class? That's kinda ... :Q How did you do it?

when i was younger i would hunt squirrels with my bb gun, i pumped one full of like 20+ pellets, had to make sure he was dead... then we threw him in the river to float down... i felt bad after it, but i would do it again.

Used to shoot birds and squirrels with a BB gun when I was a kid. Never purposely killed a cat or dog but I ran over a cat with my car once.

Animal? Yes. Killed lots of insects.

Mammals? No, I'm not a cold-hearted killer without any regard for life (not an American).

Sorry, but you take a cheap shot at Americans and I have to represent and give you the obligatory :|FUCK YOU!:|

Unless you are a vegan then someone somewhere is mistreating an animal in your name so you can have a tasty bit of flesh on your plate. And if you are vegan, how the heck did you work up the energy to reply in the first place?:laugh::laugh:

So insects != life?

I shot a deer once. I had to kill a raccoon (fairly certain it was rabid) once, that kind of got to me even though i knew i had to do it. Ive killed things on the farm (grew up on one). Rats, mice, even birds that were injured so the cats wouldnt torture them. Ive also run over some of those cats by accident but it happens.

killed many pet birds because I wanted to hold them and I guess their heart failed from fright. I think from then on the birdcage got locked 🙂

A squirrel and a couple birds with a pellet gun when I was a kid. Several by accident with a car.

I just shot one of my cats in the butt with an airsoft gun because they were fighting, does that count?

Did it die? Then it's just another "My cat's breath smells like catfood." story 😛
