Same here but it was 2 available connections (both good).

To this day my laptop "prefers" a different router than my own.

yes. the apartment right under mine, 4 floors down (don't ask how i know).
for some reason if i run netstumbler the connection jumps to the guy's unsecured network.

yes. at work, our technology center has 2 public access points. i dont know if that counts, but ive also connected to unsecured network's at my cousin's house because he was on dial-up.

There are a couple around me, including atleast one business. But I try not to use them, it's rude. Plus you don't know what people are running on their own network.

my friend and i were lost somewhere in los angeles so we drove up to some suburbs, parked at the curb and stole internet from a wireless network called "missberch." we checked our email and used mapquest in the car.

Yes. Some dude's network interfering with mine. He was using the same router but left it as a default so I went into the router menu and turned off the wireless capabilities.

Yup. All the time. Have no regrets about it. It's so easy to lock down a wireless network, I figure it's the owner's own fault for being lazy. If they can set up a wifi network, they can secure it....

I don't think there is 5 square feet in Manhattan that doesn't have at least half a dozen or so wireless networks.

So yes, of course.

I use the same justification for DDoSing hospitals.

 Yeah. Totally comparable.

Using someone's bandwidth on their dollar for their laziness != wrecking havoc on a service to humanity.

If they secured their site better...

you'd think if they can change the name of the AP, that they would enable WEP or some sort of MAC authentication? sheesh

I do sometimes in my apartment building. When I feel like leeching off of their share folders. The way these apartments were designed didn't really allow for cables. All the people in my building are college students, and my brother, roommate and I are the only ones who what they are doing. (We are also the only encrypted network, and the only one that isn't named default... we have our apartment number as the network name, these dumbasses should take a clue)

If I wanna download some songs I can always use their connection, the authoritay would never think to look down stairs!!

I probably would if I trusted them not to have a network that wasn't infected with at least half a dozen viruses.

i trip over wireless networks all the time. walking throuhg the office, all of a sudden i'll mysterious trip and fall. i now blame it on too many wireless netwroks.
