If I find one of our cats doing something I'd rather it not do, I find a blast from a can of compressed air freaks them out enough to keep them from doing it again.

A newpaper for dogs and a squirt gun for cats are good for training only. Some pets are more dominant than others and require you to show them who the leader of the pack is so to speak. But once trained it should stop.

this is the story my co-worker just gave....

his sister's dog suprise him and bit his nose... putting a hole thru it... blood spooged everywhere.... this happend last night while he was cooking and try to move the chow off the counter away from the stove....

he got so mad, he hang the dog up by its collar and beat it for about five minutes with a broom stick....

i think that's animal abuse......

once when i was asleep the cat jumped on my feet which caused me to kick and the cat went flying. well, maybe not flying but she fell off the bed when it suddenly moved underneath her. another time she walked across my neck which startled me and i sat bolt upright really fast, which startled the cat and i yelled a little bit.

Pushing a dog or cat out of the way is a lot different than even whacking it with a rolled up newspaper let alone hitting it in a malicious manner.

First night we got our cat, we tried to box her into the area where her litter was, as she was a stray we rescued. In the morning, we found her in the washroom, and her litter box used. Needless to say, we were both pleasently surprised.

We found out though, that she enjoys being smacked on the rump, rather vigourously I might add. the more we give, the more she wants.... and then she gets mad when we stop.... silly little ah heck....:)
