Have you ever had a prostate exam?

I don't know why I thought of this..

I heard when you turn 40 years old you need to start getting regularly scheduled prostate exams. Has anyone had this done before? What is it like? Tell us about the process. After you turn 40, I think it needs to be done every 5 years, but I could be wrong.

I've heard you're supposed to get it when you're in your 20s. Needless to say, I've been dodging my yearly appointment I've heard they do some other uncomfy stuff too!

I'm only 27 and they did one because I was having some bleeding. (Shut up, all of you jokers.) It turned out to be a minor bleeding ulcer, pretty much gone now.

Let's just say the glove is only a minor discomfort... I also had to visit a proctologist (I presume) who used a *medical* instrument that went 12" into the colon/intestines. THAT was discomfort! :Q:Q I'll never complain about prostrate exams after that...

You asked for it! The Uroloist inserts his finger in your anus and feels the gland. Not painful but unpleasant.

PSA bloodtest is also available and just involves drawing blood as usual.

Dont worry about prostate cancer, its a fact of life if you live long enough.

Well, the difference would probably be if you wanted to see your first grandchildren or not. That's like the smoking argument... who cares if you live to 60 or 70. Well, those 10 years of your last life could potentially be your best years... why take the gamble? 30 mins of discomfort a year isn't worth possibly extending your life?

If the doc tells you that you already have prostate cancer, are you going to give it up????


My point is that if you find out you have it, then you can choose between living your life as you have til the cancer finally takes it's hold and kills you, OR, you can go get surgery and live a compromised life for a longer period.
From what I have been told, is that every male will get prostate cancer if they live long enough.
Once you get it(because you lived long enough), then you can be happy you lived that long, or you can try to stretch it out even longer, but live without bladder control, or sexual function.

If you're like me, and don't want a compromised life, then why even get checked?

A great day. Agonizing pain, cold gel and fingeres where they don't belong, feces being smeared on my stomach while I was knocked out.. wee.

I had my appendix removed as well...and they also did this examination. Damnit I just realized it - was 12 at the time. Didn't understand why the doctor said she was going to stick her fingers up my a$$.

The prostate exam is no biggie (says the woman who never has to worry about getting one). My ex and my dad both have had them done at their yearly exams, and while they're unpleasant and a little embarrassing, they're not actually painful. Unless you've got Dr. Big Finger.

When my oldest brother turned 40 he had the exam. The doctor told him that he may get an erection and that it didn't mean anything if he did. LOL!! I asked him if it &quot;moved&quot; during the exam and he laughed and said not one bit.

Seven years until I am no longer a virgin. My wife feels that it is just revenge for all these years of gynecological examinations that she and all women go through!

Interesting. Yeah, what if sticking things up their ass was like a true fetish? That person might actually get turned on.

Anyways, I've still got a few decades to wait. But can't they knock you out with some sedatives while they're doing the exam? I mean, they only need my ass right? They don't need me. Just put me to sleep and my ass is theirs!

What is so scary? If the doc knows wth he is doing it isn't a big deal. Not having it done is unwise. Without the exam you can have cancer eating your insides and never know it until it's too late. Kinda like 'ignore the problem and it will go away.' Also, there is a blood test (PSA?) that can provide information too.

ThebestMax described it correctly-a little uncomfortable, somewhat embarassing (as much for the doctor as you) but certainly no big deal. If the whole exam lasted a minute I'd be surprised.

Don't pass on it, and certainly don't pass on treatment if you have cancer. A friend's elderly relative died recently from skin cancer that she let go for years. The surgery is no big deal.

this guy was in love with his proctologist. so one day he goes in complaining about pains in his ass. the proc drops his drawers and takes a look. he sees all these punctures in his bung. he keeps looking and starts finding thorns. he then pulls out a rose. the proc tell the man he had a rose up his ass. the patient says, i know, but read the card.

they arent that bad. he just puts some ky on his index finger and feels around, squeezing out pus if any is in the prostate. i have had to have a couple of exams because of bleeding and possible colon cancer. so you might think that while forgoing the prostate exam and dying without problems is ok, but what if you have colon cancer, and you let it go undetected? you'll be shattng in a plastic bag the rest of your life. just go get it done.

I have a female doctor and I didn't get an erection....does that mean I'm gay?
