I've had 2 and both were totally different experiences. The first one was @ a convention where everyone can see you and it was free. 20 minutes of heaven. So relaxing.

2nd one was private that I paid $60 for 1 hr. It felt like the lady was just trying to give me continuous charlie horses all over my body. I left thinking - people actually pay for this? pretty damn painful.

$60 an hour for me, but she usually works for 1.5 hours since my back is a wreck when I go in. Thank God I haven't gotten aroused while getting one .. my #1 fear going there.

A few years back the wife and I went to St Lucia and stayed at the Ladera resort and spa. At her insistance, I got my first professional massage. It wasn't "bad," but I wouldn't get another one. Call me weird, but I don't enjoy having random strangers touch me. And when those random strangers are women with incredibly strong man hands, it makes me that much more uncomfortable.

Yeah. Make sure you get a deep tissue massage though.

The swedish massage might feel good while it's happening, but it doesn't do anything for you.

My wife and I had a great deep tissue massage done in Marthas Vineyard. It was this little asian guy who used to run his own massage school in NYC, and decided to open a new practice in marthas vineyard.

Anyway, I pretty much paid him $200 to beat the shit out of me for an hour. It was so painful I was restraining tears the whole time. But I felt great for about a week afterward.

I don't think I could pay someone $200 to beat me up. : /

never had one so I don't see what the big deal is. I asked my wife once, but she's too weak to give a good massage. I did have her walk on my back. That felt pretty good.

question to all the guys who got one, have you ever gotten aroused while getting a legitimate, no-happy-ending sort of massage? How do you even deal with that?

I'm pretty sure that's normal. I'd like to get a sports or deep tissue massage one day.

I get $500 a year in free massages as a work benefit, but I've only ever bothered to go once. The girl didn't listen to what I wanted and kept telling me about all the poisons she's working out of my muscles and all the natural remedies I needed to combat it. Not a great experience.

You just need to tell her about a different place she needs to work the "poison" out of. Make sure she knows that the only way to safely dispose of the "poison" is to swallow it.

First (and only) time was on honeymoon down in Mexico. Was probably the second best part of the honeymoon. We weren't in the same room together. Seperate rooms and seperate therapists. I think I fell asleep while she was working me over. All I remember is blowing a breath out and straight into the therapists face, like about 3" away.

Yeah but I went to a local school where they teach it and it's only $10 for half an hour. I've been to a couple 4-5 star hotels where they offer the service and it's no better but 10x as much.

Never done the sleezy type "massage" hell I don't even like strip clubs unless I'm really really drunk then I'll get thrown out on my head anyway.

That's weird. I think I'd rather just get more pay.

I buy spa packages for my wife from time to time, she loves getting away and being "pampered".

I wouldn't be interested in one, I don't think I'd like some stranger rubbing me up.

How is getting it done by a professional different from a machine?
Instead of paying $50 for a half hour Shiatsu session, why not just buy a $100-$200 Shiatsu machine that you can use anytime you want?

I have a chair in my pharmacy that has a Shiatsu in our waiting room for customers waiting for their prescriptions. People always comment to me that "it's great", "it's excellent", etc...but I've never had the time to try myself.

I've never gotten a real massage either by man or machine so I don't know what it's like.
