My 2500k didn't die outright, but there was clearly something wrong with it. It ran alright at first, but it would occasionally get unexplained, non repeating BSODs. Moved to a new board, switched out the memory several times (after running MemTest for hours on each set without issue), tried three different PSUs (all of which worked without issue on my i7 860 based machine), tried several different ssds, disconnected everything from the computer, ran it with a slight OC and stock . . . and pulled out most of my hair. When it BSODed when booted from a Hiren's boot disk (14, I think) I was using for diagnosis, I became very suspicious of the processor. When it pooped out while booted from a Linux disk I gave up. Intel said they'd test it before doing anything, but they sent me a brand new processor as quickly as they could, and no more BSODs.
Troubleshooting it sucked because the BSODs were completely random. It'd run for three days without issues, then BSOD three times in rapid succession with no rhyme or reason to the error codes or the programs being run when it went down. I could run IBT for hours without any issues, then, starting up SRWare Iron BAM! It's the last thing in the world you expect to go wrong, and thank heavens that's the only time I've had to deal with it.
