He was a stray that was given to us 5 years ago since we love Sammies. He had some sort of bowel cancer - we don't know how old he was.

Yes.
It hurt me deeply to watch them drink the antifreeze but I took comfort in knowing it was a tasty last meal...........................:(

Our cat had to be put to sleep, and another ran away. I feel for you, man. But, on the bright side, our cat's gonna have kittens in ~5 weeks!

we just went thru that with a beloved dog that the b/f had for 17yrs.

I am really really sorry for your loss and understand fully how hard and painful this is.

yep. earlier this year. my first and only pet, a dog ive owned for 13 years. my dad owns the mother and it was the last one of her first litter. funny thing is, my dog was the last to survive of that first litter, but the mother is still alive and kickin'.

I've had to do it four times, it's horrible. My last dog was 14.5 and was loaded with cancer. The vet said in 30 years, it was the worst he had ever seen, and if he was a person, he would have been screaming for morphine or to die.

He didn't seem to be in pain and was eating ok, but the vet said he would be shocked if he lasted two weeks. We took him on a "farewell tour" and got him all the ice cream and burgers he loved so much and to see all the people that he knew over the years. Ten days later, he started acting very strange and it was time. Odds are, in about 5-7 years, I'll be doing it two more times, and I'm dreading it. You're doing them a favor, but it's hard as hell to do it.

Yeah, I had a pet pug that picks fights with everyone and eventually tore open someone's ear. Needless to say I was extremely happy when he finally got the shot.
