Only child? I could never have done that, even with gloves. My siblings are too nosy. They helped convince my mom that I was a horny, out of control teenager. She would joke about my lack of self control and it would really hurt. I need support, MOM! Not frickin' sarcasm!
 
Neighbor of mine at my last house found a pretty nice AR15 sitting under leaves in their backyard. Someone probably had stashed it there at some point (their next door neighbor had a fairly unsavory group of friends). Some people have all the luck. A quick swap of a new lower receiver would have made it a perfectly legit firearm.
 
My father-in-law found two guns a tenant had left at one of his apartments. He asked me to take a look at them, he thought the long gun was fake but thought the handgun was real. Turned out the handgun was a pellet gun (looked like a 1911 but was just a standard pellet/bb gun). The long gun was actually a 12 gauge shotgun, the firing pin was broken on it and it had a really cheap plastic stock. It didn't have a serial number on it either as it must have been manufactured before serial numbers were required on shotguns.
 
Never found a gun, what I'd do would be very contextually dependent.

Found some old porno mags hidden the drop ceiling of the house I used to own, pretty sure I still have them for comedy value (the ads in 70s porno mags are funny). Presumably that room had been at some point a teenage boy's bedroom...
 
Never found a gun. Nor bullets. I did find a lot of empty bullet casings but for blanks. Long ago as a i child, my friends and i ... We would often visit the practice terrains of the Dutch military when abandoned and people where allowed to enter. And only once we as wee little eager curious lads where able to get about within 100 meters(about 328 feet) from a tank that was manned and actively shooting with live ammunition at a stationary target with the machine gun and once with the big gun. A carcass of another tank. That was a very big bang ! Illegal, i know but we were young and eager. And also we gathered a lot of casing from blanks but some people found also some live ammunition. I had blanks casings and i was always searching for those chain interconnects to be able to look like Sylvester Stallone in Rambo or First blood. Which we all wanted to do. I was just one of the many boys at that time. I got a lot of those chains and for a while i even had such part of the chain. We would walk around with our plastic toy guns like an M16 or rifles or revolvers.Or sawed off bicycle pumps and shoot corks (over pressure) at each other ! So much fun ! I do not know what i did with it afterwards thoughh..This was near Harderwijk, the Netherlands. If i recall correctly, it was practice terrain Beekhuizerzand and it was called the "Zandverstuiving". This was last century of course and a lot has changed. All i still remember is that we where there almost every year. Later on , getting into puberty also with the girls. Also playing there in the sand and woods with military toys and compass. Even making boobytraps there in the woods with fishline and tree branches, blocks of wood (Sort of like predator). to make a survival parcour to test our sense of sharpness. We would even hide on the camping beneath heaps of freshly cut grass to ambush each other. That was so much fun. Once they even walked over me. Standing on my back even. After they walked on, i would jump up and shoot them all in the back and hail victory ! :blush:🏆 The other times i was not so lucky, but it was great fun.

Oh, I did find a practice bomb when I was a kid, in the ravine behind our house. We lived very near Hill AFB. I brought it home and asked my parents about it (both in the USAF at the time) and they told me what it was. Can't remember what became of it.
I seem to recall it looking pretty much like this one.

Problem is you don’t know where the bullets that went down the barrel ended up. That is what convicts people. Not the lower.

Not to be too weird, but the gold standard for that very specific use case is a box cutter. No modifications required, very normal to have in about a thousand different blue collar jobs, costs like five bucks, and will absolutely fillet a human if you're inclined for some reason.

I suspect anyone found with one of those in the street by Her Majesty's constabulary would have some explaining to do, unless they could prove they were a carpet-fitter on their way to a job. The laws on 'offensive weapons' are pretty strict.

Though I do, personally, suspect there's too much emphasis in the media on the idea that teens stab each other (which they do on a frequent basis in this city) because they just happened to have a weapon on them and decided to use it on the spur of the moment.

As far as I can see, many such stabbings happen because the stabber took a weapon with them with the specific intent to stab someone. Thus random stop-and-searches would seem to have a low-chance of catching the perps before they kill.

I'm very happy guns are not commonplace, though. It seems like it takes a much stronger motivation to stab someone than to shoot them. I've a couple of times in my life had someone try to mug me at knifepoint, and both times they eventually gave up and ran off when I wouldn't co-operate. I strongly suspect those incidents would have gone very differently if they'd had a gun.

Ballistics pretty much cannot be used to convict someone on its own - not to mention that small bore rifle rounds often will fragment on impact. The chance of LE making some sort of connection to a firearm and its ballistics used to someone completely unrelated to an incident is about zilch - unless of course I went and used that firearm in a crime and it was traced back to me - then perhaps both could be pinned on me, but doubtful. All elementary at this point.
