have you ever eaten a meal that was really worth over $15?

I think the $2.99 specials at IHOP are just fine.

It's pointless, IMO, to buy a $40 meal unless you are a) trying to impress someone (a client or something) or b) filthy fvcking rich. I spent $45 at the grocery store the other day getting enough food for about 30 meals and still cringed at having to spend that paper, though. Maybe I'm just a frugal bastard.

Hmmm. I don't really eat steak or anything "sophisticated" like rare fish and stuff.

There's a place around here that has ridiculously awesome pizza, though. It's pretty pricey. A large 1 topping will run you $13+ tax. After some garlic bread and a few pitchers of beer it's usually well over $20 even for 2 people. Not that I go out on dates, those are for queers. But when I go and eat with my imaginary friend, it's over $20 and the sh!t is mindblowingly delicious. I didn't think there would ever be that big of a difference between a $7 pizza and a $13 pizza, but there is.

Do you realize that a large pizza for $13 isnt really pricey?? Most DECENT pizza places cost 10-20 for a large.... Chicago deep dish pizza is usually more than $20 and definitely worth it.

Perhaps in a land where things cost an inordinate amount of money. There used to be a place around here that sold 2 large 1 toppings for $8. And it was pretty decent stuff.

i would say yes while im eating it, but have a change of heart when i see the end result the next day.

to me, its just food and im cheap. few things have i eaten out that are better than what i can cook myself at home.

I've had lots of meals that were worth $15+.

That is one thing I really love about Chicago, all the great food.

I hate spending a lot of money on food because it's perishable. Or I eat it. If I buy something like a TV for $400, I'm going to enjoy it for a very long time. If I buy a $100 meal it lasts an hour, maybe. WTF.

I took my wife out to the Rainforest Cafe last night and got two meals and two smoothies. Total was over $40. The food was definately not worth the price, although the place itself was pretty cool. I started thinking about it, and I don't think I've ever really eaten a meal that was worth over $10 or $15. I think maybe $12 was the max. How about you? And say where if you have...🙂
What do you expect from some crappy mall restaurant? 😕
Of course I've eaten many meals that were worth more than $15.

Honestly, sometimes I really don't understand you people when it comes to food.

I would usually agree with the "crappy mall restaurant" thing, but in the same mall - Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. was worth more than $15.

Ugh...might as well eat at Joe's Crab Shack or Red Lobster. :disgust:

I can think of a couple meals right now....granted they were meals I had on my honeymoon but damn they were good.

Argentinian beef & Chilean wine FTW!

so name some restaurants already 😀
I feel sorry for you because you continue to think that people who live no where near you can name some restaurants for you to eat at -- meaning you're thinking in terms of national chain restaurants.

Exactly. I'm sure there are some real gems near you that are not chains.

Dude...I love IHOP. Honestly, I think the food there is great. Maybe it's just because I grew up on mostly fast food type of restaurants 😉

ugh...no wonder you don't think anything is worth $15....you have no taste buds.

Most main dishes here in NYC will start at about $12-15. The most expensive meal I've had was at Nobu's here in the city (combination of tenderloin, salmon filet, desserts, wine). Final bill came out to about $300 for the both of us and worth every dollar and cent. I won't be doing that again though anytime soon...

Yeah, don't go to overpriced garbage chain restaurants and you'll find many places serve food over $15 that's well worth it.

Oh hell yeah, I've eaten some pretty pricey stuff. Last winter we went to a 5 star bistro called Fifi's, and my meal cost about $90. I had a Tartelettes aux cèpes et au chèvre (a pastry type thing filled with goat cheese and mushrooms) for an appetizer, a beef fillet wrapped around a duck and pork medalion covered in a wine sauce (served with vegetables that looked more like artwork than something you could eat), a bottle of '92 cabernet, and ended with a huge chocholate truffle souffle. I love exotic food 🙂

I'm also into exotic seafood- shark, eel, different kinds of crabs...you name it.

Holy christ. If I ever went out with a woman and spent $300 I better be getting anal and a brazilian.

I don't swing that way!

If you take steak and alcohol out of the picture, I absolutely agree with you.

The day I can't enjoy a meal that costs $30 for me and the wife together is a sad day indeed. Because I really enjoy a $30 meal, and I'd rather enjoy that than have to spend $100 on a meal.

It's all going to be poop in a few hours anyway. 😉
