I used to in my v6 accord, would take most cars that are stock that are daily drivers, but I eventually decided that there was no point, if I wanted a fast car I would have gotten one, this meets my needs and will last me

In my younger and dumber days, I did. We usually went to a place that the
streets are in an empty area of town, no buildings, no nothing and we would
race there. I've owned 3 mustangs that I would run, an '82 gt, an '85 lx
and a '68 coupe (my favorite).

The one time I did run on a regular street, I almost got busted for it. Three
of us lined up at an intersection, the light went green and we all went. Right
after the launch, my girlfriend (now my wife) pointed out that you could see
the reflection of the badge on the door of a cops car in the shadow of a building.
Apparently the others noticed at the same time because we all broke off and
went different directions. The cop picked me, probably because mine made the
most noise and tire smoke, and followed me through some residential streets
for about 20 minutes, and then he just left.

I've discovered that racing boats is much more fun :D

Yup.

I used to long ago when I was in the service in So Cal.

And I don't think I ever lost, stop light to stop light. (1969 AMC Javilen with a 290 V-8 and a super T10 four speed! That engine was QUICK!!)

I also used to go to Orange County International and "Bracket Race"

Jup and it was quite fun, accelerating to the speed limit and then stop it, or maybe 5-10 more.

Nope. I'd probably lose to a guy driving a riding lawnmower if it ever came down to that. ;)

Where do you live, I've got some more vacation time coming up in a couple of weeks. I'd be glad to hand you your first loss on the street. ;)

umm...no. That is just not a hi-po engine.

There was a bunch of us gearheads that hung out (this was back in 1989-91) and we would race one another just outside the city limits. I lost by half a fender to a modded 87 5.0 lx 5 speed. I drove a lightly modded 1968 Buick Skylark with a 350 Buick V8.

My friend Mark had a 1969 Dart with a modded 318. He had a 6 pack hood scoop with the hood painted black and body dark blue. It was one great looking and nasty fast car. He could take Grand nationals with it. Jeff had the second fastest car here. His 1968 Dart was good for low 12's with a seriously modded 340. Pete had a tunnel rammed 360 Challenger that was making some very serious power (dyno'd at 750hp). It was so fast it scared him. One day he got on it and barely went 10 feet and he was sideways going across the intersection. This car was tubbed and 4 linked.

Those were the good old days.

If you're going to race, go to one of two places:

- Drag strip. Timeslips don't lie, and they're cheaper to pay for than a ticket and six demerits.
- Lonely industrial road at 2-3 in the morning, with a bunch of other folk, who are perfectly aware of the risks they're taking.

Right... BS.

I find it funny that it runs on pump gas with the compression they run, plus the fact that a MTI 427 with heads and cams would be cheaper than buying a used NASCAR engine(if you even could) and FASTER.

Hahaha. That's one of the funniest things i have seen today. Great joke. So what's the punch line?

A 355 cu in. V8 that runs high compression and idles at what? 3000 rpm? No bottom end power and runs pumps gas. You sir, are an idiot.

I once drag raced my friend's 1968 Mustang in my 1978 Dodge Colt.

He was beating the pants off me, but then he ran out of gas! :D

So, I pulled over to help him out. We had a good laugh going to the gas station getting gas for his car.

Ever? Ever is a long time for me ;)

Rarely race anyone now. What would the point be? Most guys on bikes know better, except one Duck guy who knows now, but occasionally I will have a guy get real obnoxious in his car. Usually I ignore them, but I have yielded to temptation. Young preppy attorney types in Vipers are the worst. Most of the other drivers are not major asses though. Had a little run in with a Ferrari Modena 360 F1 which was a hella sweet car. Talked to the owner afterwards for a bit. Really nice guy. The only car to suprise me was of all things a late model Lincoln SC (I think) that was HEAVILY modded. Stunning black car. I did catch him, but he actually started to pull away until I downshifted. Nice guy too. This is a pretty good area it seems for good drivers with good cars (and bikes for that matter). They never drove above their skill area or in crowded areas.

Had a run with a late-model ford fiesta the other day....the bastard had me from a roll but I forgot to turn off my stereo and pull in my mirrors. I don't get it....I'm easily pulling 56 hp to the wheels, I should be able to smoke him.

When I had my RX-7, every day was race day.
Now I have a Taurus and Expedition. Aint too much I can race.

Although, funny enough, just today I was gettin ready to try'n pull on a Durango. Younger kid, nice Durango, slowly pullin up on me. I was *almost* ready hit it when he sped up just a nudge, and durin that time I heard the very distinctive sound of turbos. I decided real quick that was one pull I wasnt gonna win and let him ride on by.
