My fiance and I have chosen the names for our future children... girl = Nila, boy = James.
He is 1/2 black and 1/2 white, I am Chinese, and we are both American. I'd like them to have a Chinese middle name.

i haven't thought of names yet, but i have a cousin (to be) that already named 2 of her children (and she's only been dating this guy for 1 -- yes, one -- month)...
one thing is certain.. i would not choose an eclectic name. it would have to be consistent with my nationality and my religion. i hate it when people make assumptions about people based on names. i'm going to try to eliminate that perception.

On a different note, I think girls can "get away" with more exotic/crazy names than boys. i.e. you can name a girl "Apple", but if you named a boy the same he'd never live it down. True story, I have two cousins... their parents wanted them to have "Westernized names", so my aunt watched cartoons and decided to name the children "He-Man" (a boy) and "She-Ra".
He-Man turned out to be a very sweet but skinny little Chinese guy, and She-Ra is a pretty Chinese girl. He-Man got so much crap he changed his name to "Kevin", but everyone still calls "Shera"... well, "Shera".

I think it's nice that they tried, but unfortunately He-Man got stuck with... He-Man. He still gets mad when I call him that, I think he changed it when he turned 13/14 or so.
My father-in-law's side of the family is Greek so we called our son Nicholas and gave him a Greek middle name that's been passed down to most of the guys on her dad's side of the family for the last couple of generations.
This is cool, but the problem is that our son's middle name is this long 4-syllable Greek name that sounds different from the spelling AND I've got a German last name that constantly gets misspelled and/or mispronounced.

The woman decided that the names would be Alexa for a girl and Aiden for a boy, after I offered up Onenn and Vougay. She also decided to make that month "Sex Free Month" and ignored me for two days.
