Have you ever completely run out of gas?

15 gallon tank, I try to fill up when it reaches a quarter. But then when it is at a quarter, I can only put in 9 gallons of gas for some reason.

All you close call people are a bunch of pvssies. I am a poor person who knows exactly how far I can go. I drove about 27 miles with the gas light on today and when I finally filled my tank, I put in 15.39 gallons. I have a 15.5 gallon tank.

I ran out of gas twice at my job, once in the midst of driving my greensmower across the green (i work at a gold course). It was quite a putting hazard, as you might expect.

once. fuel gauge did not work (and I was on a tressell with no side lane). it was a bad day.

edit: anyone from the Seattle area that has driven on the long tressell (bridge) from Everett to Lake Stephens. it was that one. not a good place to break down.

when mine hits a quarter, i can put 12 gallons into my 12 gallon tank... and i can drive 100+miles before my gauge drops below full.

I've been pretty close a few times. The comp on the dashboard said I had 0 miles left for those times, but I always had at least .5 gallons left when going 10 miles or so to get gas.

Back in the '70s during the "gas shortage" my friends and I had just gotten our driver's licenses and it was pretty common to come across people who had run out of gas. It was almost a daily discussion at school about who had helped who when they'd run out of gas.

Most gas stations had a limit on the amount of gas they would sell to each customer and there were always long lines. So you hardly ever had a full tank of gas unless you had time to sit in lines all day at different places. Even if you did try to wait until you had a quarter tank or less, you couldn't always get gas when you needed it because a lot of the stations would run out.

I was luckier than most because my parents owned a gas station, but it was a real pain when I helped out there because of all the customers who complained about having to sit in long lines and the limit on the amount they could buy. The only time I was allowed to fill up my own car was in the middle of the night and I'd have to hope that no one saw me or they would pull in too and a line would form even if it was midnight. :frown:

haha yeah, me and my roommates going to visit some friends in AZ and this guy always drives with barely any gas. We had to walk like 20 Miles to a local gas station, practically we were in the desert. At the gas station we saw a CHP and told him our car ran out of gas and he kindly gave us a ride back!

walking there was pain in the asss but good times back seat inside a CHP car is uncomfortable for those who dont know

i was so close to running out of gas awhile back. the car was on negative E... i must've had maybe a half a gallon left. you could feel it in the car... it was running off fumes.

I never have, my stupid mercury sable has like 5 gallons left when it hits the E. I always fill up around a quarter of a tank. My brother has in his bmw(older) recently, it said he had a quarter of a tank, and it had nothing left, but luckly he was in a parking lot.

never although I came very close once...i was on the highway in arizona or new mexico going to texas from cali...i pulled over because i really needed gas bad, the light had been on for a while...well its 10:30 pm and i pull over and see a sign that says, gas station closed, next gas 30 miles...

I was so scared, but i made it, had under a gallon left when i filled up

never. my light comes on when i have about 3 or 4 gallons left, so i just tell myself that if the light comes on, i need to head to the nearest station. depending on the driving, i get anywhere from 250 miles (lots of city driving) to 400+ miles (all highway) a tank.
