Have you ever bonded with a pet?

Forgive the rambling. It's 5 AM and I just woke up a little while ago. 😉

It's about 5 in the morning on Saturday and I felt inspired to ask this for some reason. I just woke up and our youngest cat came up to me in bed, curled up on the pillow next to my head and purred up a storm for a while as I scratched her ears with my hand that she was laying next to.

I've had numerous cats over the years. I've grown up with them, watched them grow up, played with them and watched them play together, comforted them when they were scared, woken up with them sleeping on or next to me.

I've also lost a number of cats that were dear to my heart and it's like losing a good friend. I've heard all the stuff about how cats are independent and so forth. In some ways, that is true. All the cats I've ever had are definitely a bit aloof from each other and possessive of things they consider to be theirs. On the other hand, I feel like I've bonded with many of them on a certain level, especially if I got them as a kitten and not as an adult.

You clean up their puke and their poop, you scold them for getting on the tables or counters, you deal with the cuts and scratches you get when they don't want to take worm medicine, but you never stop loving them even when they're being a serious pain in the ass. In return, you get their trust and loyalty and they provide hours of entertainment.

So, have you ever bonded with a pet? (a cat, dog, etc.) Any and all insights on this would be interesting.

One of my dalmations always runs up to lay in bed with me after my mom leaves for work in the morning. She ALWAYS wants to lay under the covers, and she'll paw at your face unless you let her. Then she always has to be laying so she can rest her head on you.

Weirdo.

Of course I have, heck I even love my housemate's cat Buddy,he sleeps in my dresser drawers and nags me for meatloaf🙂

i think most of us have.

We have about 5 cats, but my favourite, which was a reddish male that could almost talk to you was run over by a car about 2 months ago. He was the best cat i ever had (i had to climb a very slanted hill [about 75degrees] to get him - he was abandoned).

If i know who has the guts to run over a kitten knowingly, i'll fuckin kill them myself. Saddest sight in the streets is a dog or cat lying dead in the middle of the street.

Brutus has been with me since he was about 2 months old. He used to go to work with me every day. Until some old lady that wasn't paying attention what she doing tripped over him (while gabbing on her cell phone), now he has to stay home. 🙁 Before that, he was with me 24 / 7 / 365. Bonded? Yeah I'd say we're bonded! 🙂

Yes! I have bonded with many of my cats, and one of my dogs. It is like loosing a friend when one of them passes away. 🙁🙁

My cats, one of them comes up to my room every night. I sleep with the door closed and if shes not in the room when I close it she'll cry and scratch the door until I let her in. When I wake up in the mornings shes usually sleeping on top of me staring at me purring when I wake up.

🙁

I know what you mean. If anyone harmed a cat in front of me, especially my cats, I'd be hard-pressed to keep from trying to kill them with my bare hands.

EDIT: I know what you mean about the talking. My parents have a cat that I grew up with that I used to "talk" to a lot. He'd let out this "rowww" sound (his version of a meow) and I'd do it back to him. He'd respond and we would go back and forth like that for a minute. 😀

What kind of dog is Brutus? He looks like a mix between a lab and something else. He is a cutie! 😀

He's rottie, pitbull, and Chesapeake Bay.

Yes our cats own everything in the house. Our duty is to make sure all of their feline needs are met.

lol, I saw that as 'Have you ever boned with a pet?' hahaha 😉

Anyway yes I have, but sadly, she is in doggy heaven now. 🙁

Yes...whenever I go to town, Maggie comes with me and puts her arm on the armrest like a person, and puts her paw up on the dash when I brake so she doesn't fall off the seat. 😛
