Paging Harvey... paging Harvey...
I thought I felt my ears burning.
Do records count? Here's
a song I co-wrote for Annette Funicello around 1965.
Writing it was a fun story. Joe Saraceno, the other writer, was a producer I knew at Liberty Records. I was in his office, one day, and he tells me he wants a tune based on the school cheer, "We're from (school name). No one could be prouder. If you can't hear me we'll yell a little louder."
The story is that everyone is always putting down the girl's boyfriend, and she sings the song with the chorus:
He's my guy. No one could be prouder. If you can't hear me I'll yell a little louder.
He asked me to go home and write the tune based on his idea, and that's the tune I wrote.
As suggested by the post on youtube, I originally wrote it with Leslie Gore in mind, but he was the record producer with the connections, and he took it to Annette.
I was fortunate enough to be in the booth at the recording session which was awesome. The band was the "Hollywood Wrecking Crew," including Hal Blaine on drums, Carol Kaye on bass, Tommy Tadesco on guitar.
The tune got a pick hit in Cashbox, and it flopped...
Other than as it's function as a placemark along my way.
