Today when I was purchasing a Profile series PC from Gateway I was asked for a CID number from my credit card. I didn't have clue what it was.
Look on the back of your credit card where you sign. You should have the card number, followed by three more digits. That's the CID number. Gateway asks for that number for extra security to show that you just didn't swipe a card number off of a receipt or something.
Sort of neat actually. They said that if the person making the purchase couldn't supply the CID number, they wouldn't allow the transaction to complete. I thanked them for taking that extra little step of security, just as I thank the cashier that asks for an ID when using a credit card at a retail store.
Have any other places adopted this?
