Have you ever aspired to be an author?

Have you ever aspired to be an author? Did you ever actually start a book? Finish it? Try to get it published? What was it about? Post a sample chapter here. 🙂 [/OP question]

I went through that phase when I was 16, and would again if I had any good plot ideas. I wrote about a novel and a half, sci fi. A literary agent picked it up and tried to pitch it.

I'm on my work computer so I don't have access right now to anything I've written (and I haven't written since high school so everything I *do* have is absolute crap 😛) but I'll post something when I get home. I asked the agent to drop it when I was 17, reread it and decided that if I ever had anything published under my name I'd want it to be better than that... not like it really had a shot in hell anyway. [/OP answering own question]

It was a dark and stormy night...

Unfortunately, I can't do any better than that, and I ripped that off.

I still write short stories all the time. I always wanted to be a writer, and I did well in my early writing and journalism classes, but I hated showing my work to other people, so now I just write for my own personal satisfaction. I also do not have the talent to actually write anything decent, but I do enjoy the exercise of putting pen to paper and getting whatever weird, jumbled pieces are in my head turning them into a cohesive story.

I won a creative writing award in grade 8 and I thought I could be a writer for several years after that..... I've never written anything of substance. As I understand it, if you're a writer, it will just come out one day and won't be forced.

I used to want to be a poet  I won some awards for my poetry in college and had some stuff published in small magazines (no, not those "submit your poetry and we'll publish it and then harass you about buying a $100 book for years and give you a fake award" things). I also used to write passable short stories, but never had the pacience for a novel.

idk though... my muse kinda deserted me like 5 years ago and I haven't written a lick since. I've had an idea for a high-brow short story about zombies kicking around in my head for awhile, but every time I start writing it out it just feels so wrong for some reason.

i wrote a bunch of short story science fiction stuff when I was in High school, but nothing that was ever published or even put on the web...did most of it with a typewriter..hehe.

I've never made it more than a couple chapters in. The latest one (understandably) drew comparisons to Douglas Adams. I'm not sure if I still have the files lying around or not.

I all ways have had the ambishun to being a wryter. I haz sum good idears abowt storees and stuf, but I kin knot seam to get they publeshd. I think them publeshars ar a bunch of leetsts or sumthin.

I had an idea for a novel once upon a time...good plot, good story line, GREAT title...but never could seem to get it written. I had part of the opening chapter done...then lost it on a corrupt zip disk...never went back to it.

I think it'd have been a blockbuster...and I even had the actors picked for the movie version...😛

Once for about 5 minutes. I like writing, but I don't really have enough things to say about one subject to write a whole book without repeating myself.

I still write songs even though I don't play in a band anymore. Maybe I will again one day.

i have tried. I usually wake up at 1am thinking i have a great idea. Then when i get up in the morning i see i have written gibberish

I'm actually writing a graphic novel right now with one of my friends. We've been working on it forever and we have it pretty well figured out. He does the artwork since he's an art major and I'm the writer =p, although we both share in the ideas. It's really just down to stuff like names for places and people now. We'll see if it goes anywhere.
