I've prayed to him many times.

The important part is, don't pray for material things (ie, God, please give me a bike)

Pray for things that he can help you with. (ie. Strength through a rough time). I've actually prayed to God for rain to stop when I got to school. Many many times it worked. Prayer is a powerful thing, and works wonders, if you have faith in him.

I've also prayed for many other things. One thing I've noticed is that God helps me by giving me ideas.

Just one way that he communicates with me. He works in mysterious ways and possibly not the same way for everyone.

I didn't pray for material things.

When I was a little girl I just prayed that my mom would stop trying to kill me and my little brothers. She stopped putting her cigarettes out on our backs and instead started putting them out in the living room curtains so that we could run from the kitchen to there with glasses of water to put the fires out.

Thanks God. I really want to hear about your mysterious ways....

Modest mouse - Bukowski

Woke up this morning and it seemed to me,
that every night turns out to be
A little more like Bukowski.
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read.
But God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?
God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?

Well we sat on the edge of the river,
the crowd screamed, "Sacrifice the liver!"
If God takes life, he's an Indian giver.
So tell me now why, you'll tell me never.
Who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?
Well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?

Well see what you wanna see. You should see it all.
Well take what you want from me. You deserve it all.
Nine times out of ten our hearts just get dissolved.
Well I want a better place or just a better way to fall.

But one time out of ten, everything is perfect for us all.
Well I want a better place or just a better way to fall.
Here we go!

If God controls the land and disease,
keeps a watchful eye on me,
If he's really so damn mighty,
my problem is I can't see,
well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?
Well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?

Evil home stereo, what good songs do you know?
Evil me, oh yeah I know, what good curves can you throw?

Well all that icing and all that cake,
I can't make it to your wedding, but I'm sure I'll be at your
wake.
You were talk, talk, talk, talkin' in circles that day,
when you get to the point make sure that I'm still awake, OK?

Went to bed and didn't see
why every day turns out to be
a little bit more like Bukowski.
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read.
But God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?

Roger that.

So you base your proof on him following through on some things that may or may not have happened anyway? Don't get me wrong I believe a creator exist but not that he is bothered by our problems.
I believe that God will respond to philisophical and spiritual matters, but not earthly, physical matters.

Like self improvement.
I believe that people who believe such things are likely to improve themselves (1 reason to believe) like prayer and faith may have a benefit in healing. Is it God doing it? I doubt it.

The funny thing is, you never know how God can act through you. Or through someone to help you.

I've seen it happen several times. Makes my faith in him stronger every time.

I believe it is possible however many people are also helped by placebo.

That is true too. But in some cases, I've seen that it could only of been done through the hand of God.

In a nutshell, folks are helped in many ways. Could be through material means, psychological, or spiritual.

All goes case by case basis.

You can only question so many instances til you wear it out. Life would be too coincidental if He didn't exist. I'm no bible thumper but I do know that it'd be stupid to think there wasn't a higher being than humans. And if there isn't, then that is one sad, sad fact.

I'm not laughing. Trust me I'm not. I was just trying to lightening up the moment a bit.

I'm sorry if you took offense to that statement.

I don't know what was in God's mind or what his intent was.

All I can really speak from are from my personal experiences where he is constantly touching and affecting my life.

I'm sorry that you had to go through such hardships. How old were you back then?

Why does God let kids get AIDS?

More importantly, why are you asking a fellow ATOTer about why God does what He does?

Actually, I can't stand bible thumpers. I'm a hardcore liberal catholic but there is no way i'm going to impove my values on others. I had a friend who did that once to me, and man, all i could tell her was "let's change the subject now, shall we?". I was doing my upmost best to be civil to her.

Those who preach (by saying how God has affected their lives, I don't mind and find it interesting to hear about it) but saying "you have to do this and this and this because of this....." grrrrrrr

I think i asked him why my best friend got murdered by gangsters when I was young.

In the end, I came to realize, at least for myself, that if I am to be judged, I am on my own until the day of judgement. If someone is judgin me, they will wait for the end result and then speak with me.

It's funny, I just posted an LJ entry about how much I hate the neo-religious people. There's this girl in my class and the other day my English teacher heard me say fvck to a friend and she was all "Uhhh whoever said that, what makes you think that's acceptable language?" in a joking manner, so I was all "Yeah Sean, what makes you think that's acceptable? God kills three kittens every time you say that word" So he replied "Shut the fvck up!" and the teacher somehow missed it. But the stupid girl was all "No, God killed his only son Jesus for all our sins." LIKE I WAS FVCKING SERIOUS YOU IDIOT!

Man, I sure do hate them.

Like you are probably aware of already 😉

so many questions like "why do bad things happen to good people?" are really hard to answer.

Could be God's way of testing your character and improving your development.

Or could be sh!t happens.

I always ask "why did the woman I loved leave me for an abusive alcoholic loser?" Who knows? Maybe this was God's way of putting me on a different life path to accomplish something?

Well of course, but come on. Yeah I take my religion very seriously, but it's just a saying. It's when they want to have some kind of reassurance that they're believing the right thing or some bs like that that they do/say stupid things. And they get this "I'm more religious/I'm better than you attitude." That's not what it's about, at all.

he tried to get out. He was somewhat gullible and didn;t realize his frienships were actually a gang until it was too late. once he rezlized what they did and tried to leave, they strangled him and left him for dead on the side of a highway.

The girl is right, but she completely misinterprated what you guys were saying!

Like you are probably aware of already 😉

Well of course, but come on. Yeah I take my religion very seriously, but it's just a saying. It's when they want to have some kind of reassurance that they're believing the right thing or some bs like that that they do/say stupid things. And they get this "I'm more religious/I'm better than you attitude." That's not what it's about, at all.

the one who are the "i"m more religious/I'm better then you" attitude don't even know what being religious is! Jesus mentions in the bible many times "love your neighbour as you would love yourself" and "respect those around you like you would want to be treated".

I think i asked him why my best friend got murdered by gangsters when I was young.

In the end, I came to realize, at least for myself, that if I am to be judged, I am on my own until the day of judgement. If someone is judgin me, they will wait for the end result and then speak with me.

what did your friend do to provoke the gang?

he tried to get out. He was somewhat gullible and didn;t realize his frienships were actually a gang until it was too late. once he rezlized what they did and tried to leave, they strangled him and left him for dead on the side of a highway.

ouch 🙁 I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 One thing God gave us was free will.

if the gang was intent on killing him.....they will be trying to kill him unless otherwise stoppped.

They're the same ones who turn into adults who donate all this money to a specific church and think that they're a religious person and that they're better than all their friends. Religion and competition don't mix at all. Well, unless you're me and Stojakapimp, in which case, whoever can hit more and lower bass notes is the best evar. 😀

Maybe the curtans needed replacing? 😉

Seriously though...I don't know why your mom did that.

But at least she stoppped putting her cigarettes out on your backs.

Ah, laugh about it if you want to and call shens all you want.

Where was God then though?

I'm not laughing. Trust me I'm not. I was just trying to lightening up the moment a bit.

I'm sorry if you took offense to that statement.

I don't know what was in God's mind or what his intent was.

All I can really speak from are from my personal experiences where he is constantly touching and affecting my life.

I'm sorry that you had to go through such hardships. How old were you back then?

Was that one of his "mysterious ways" You are constantly touched and others are beaten and burned with cigarettes?

You really are a troll aren't you?

for asking questions? 😕
