Have you ditched all your PCs and just gone back to having one?

I have got about 4 PCs now (and a laptop), I convince myself they all have their uses but when people poke their head in my computer room they think it's a lot. I can remember just having one PC, and to be honest I spend 99% of the time on my "main" PC. Has anybody dumped there several-PC LAN setup and gone back to one? Sounds sad but I wonder if I would miss them and end up eventually building them up again (rather than having drawers full of spare parts, you can't sell everything).

I need two pcs, one as a server/router and one as my main computer so I would never want to go to "just" one pc

Been there, done that. I used to have, at any given time, at least 3 fully functional machines around the house. Once I got out of college, and realized how much money I was dumping into this habit, I dumped all but one and have that way ever since. It's cheaper on the electricity bill, it keeps the woman happy(less clutter), and it's 3 machines less that I have to worry about upgrading.

What really helped was getting a job that let me play with the latest and greatest toys. I get to tinker around with cool stuff, and get paid to do it :)

I used to have 4 pcs and a laptop... all the machines are still around but now my extended family uses them. Since then I have had one machine for going on 3 years which has yet to be upgraded except new harddrives .... I use a laptop with wireless internet in front of the big screen or if I want to watch a movie or soemone is already in the family room I will go to my room to use wireless internet there.

So I guess all my time is still split ... but I dumped all my other machines.

Same here. Although, honestly, my server isn't doing anything. I mean, not anything my main machine couldn't do. I have it sharing 2 printers (1 parallel port + 1 network laser) and acting as my gateway/firewall. I had aspirations of doing web development on it, but I haven't done anything to that end for... months. So, instead, my server sits there folding proteins for Folding@Home.

Right now, I only need one main, powerful computer. Next year when I move off-campus after graduation, I will likely build a server once I have to get a cable modem.

I only have 2 and my wife thinks it's too much! I have my main rig that I do most stuff on and the other is used for work only.

I have like 6 right now and am slowly whittling them down. I cannabalized my file server and put my RAID drives into my main rig. I plan on keeping my main rig, my mac G4, and a backup 1 gig duron machine. Other than that, I'm going to get rid of the rest. Too much hassle and money.

All the PCs in my house serves a purpose. I have one hooked to the TV and stereo that plays MP3s, my main PC, a server PC that runs all my server apps, and my wifes PC. There are 2 laptops on top of that my wife and I use.

Would I go back to using one? Nope! I use UD to crunch for a cure for cancer. :)
