Every single time the military has given me the shot; no flu. Live nasal spray? Flu symptoms for almost a week. Get the shot homies.

I prefer to lick everything I can to bolster my immune system. It's more effective that way.

:sneaky:

... Hey olds!

I took the live nasal variety which turned out to be a mistake because I suffered many flu like symptoms for the following three days. It was miserable.

So, a relatively normal vaccination experience. The entire point is to trigger your immune system into action, and develop natural antibodies.

I get it every year as it's required for, and provided by, work (hospital).

I was amused at the email that just went out the other day at my wife's company. Anyone who hasn't gotten the flu shot or signed some sort of form will be taken off the schedule starting Monday. Tis the law where she works.

I've had the flu twice in my life, once as a child had the "Hong Kong" variety and was seriously ill missed three weeks of school. Second time as an adult missed a week of work and felt like crap.

Have gotten the flu shot several times including the year I ended up getting the flu lol. In my opinion its pretty much a crap-shoot if you get it or not.

And while I don't believe you actually get the flu from a flu shot, I know too many people who end up with cold-symptoms for a week or so after getting vaccinated for it to be complete BS.

Health worker?

No. The flu vaccine is a known trigger for GBS (Guillain Barre Syndrome, which I had in 2007), so I never get the flu shot anymore. Not worth the risk IMO, even though my bout of GBS was relatively mild (and by mild, I mean I didn't have to be put on a ventilator, but I couldn't walk properly for a little over 6 months).

Interestingly enough, actually contracting the flu has a much higher rate of triggering GBS than getting a flu shot. Still, I probably wouldn't risk it either if I had GBS in the past.

Same with my wife. She works in a hospital and refusal to get the flu vaccine results in termination of employment.

Meh, the vaccine is considered to be okay to give to people even if they had GBS in the past due to the vaccine.

We're talking like 10 people per million who got the complication, and cases don't increase significantly during vaccine campaigns.

Agreed, and from what I have read on the subject it was specifically the 1976 H1N1 vaccine that was linked to higher than normal GBS cases. My BIL had a severe case of GBS about 10 years ago and I was scared to death to get the flu vaccine after that until I read quite a bit about it.

Never had it, never will, never had the flu. Maybe when I am older I will reconsider, but for now, nope.
